Today we’re announcing a significant update to our ecosystem— the rollout of a new gas fee system on GalaChain. As part of our ongoing commitment to enhance the efficiency, security and sustainability of our network, we are implementing gas fees for various transactions and actions across our platforms, including Gala Games, Gala Music, Gala Film and GalaSwap.
What’s Changing?
As the result of approval of this recent Founder’s Node governance vote, fees will now be applied to the following actions on GalaChain:
GalaChainToken Transactions:
BatchFillTokenSwap
BatchMintToken
BurnTokens
FulfillMint
FulfillMintAllowance
MintToken
MintTokenWithAllowance
RequestTokenBridgeOut
RequestTokenSwap
TerminateTokenSwap
TransferToken
User Actions (1 $GALA fee per action):
Minting currency from mint allowance
Minting NFTs from mint allowance
Bridging out currency (note: existing fees apply, future dynamic fees are in development)
Sending currency
Sending NFTs
Paying for orders by transferring funds
Paying for orders by burning funds
Why Introduce Fees?
The implementation of transaction fees serves multiple objectives:
Ecosystem Health: By increasing the amount of burnt $GALA, we aim to ensure the long-term health and sustainability of our ecosystem.
Resource Allocation: Efficient allocation of network resources encourages optimal and responsible usage, crucial as we expand the ecosystem to include greater numbers of third party developers.
Spam Prevention: Deterring spam and other undesired behaviors helps maintain the integrity of individual channels and the GalaChain network as a whole.
Channel Founder Incentives: Founders of new GalaChain channels will receive a portion of fees collected within their channels.
Node Operator Incentives: Providing ongoing benefits for node operators supports the decentralization and robustness of GalaChain.
Referral Incentive
As approved by the Gala Founder’s Node ecosystem in THIS VOTE, all $GALA burned as gas fees qualifies for a direct referral incentive reward. The direct referrer receives 8-10% of the burnt $GALA as a mint allowance, and the 2nd degree referrer (referrer of referrer) receives 2%.
Initial Launch and Future Rollout
The initial launch of the new system will apply only to transactions on the asset channel. This means many game NFTs and $MUSIC, which are not currently on the asset channel, will not have fees at first. However, it is essential to mention that fees for these channels are coming soon, ensuring a comprehensive rollout across the entire Gala ecosystem.
Aligning with Traditional Practices
While GalaChain is a permissioned blockchain and does not use miners like Ethereum, our fee structure borrows from traditional practices to streamline operations and provide ongoing opportunities for node operators. This hybrid approach allows us to maintain the benefits of decentralization while we continue to grow, ensuring the efficiency and reliability of our network.
Looking Ahead
Our commitment to innovation and community engagement remains steadfast as we continue to develop and refine our platform.
We appreciate your support and understanding as we implement these changes to enhance the Gala ecosystem. Together, we are building a more sustainable, efficient and secure future for all GalaChain users.
Stay tuned for more updates, and thank you for being a part of our journey!
Today we are releasing a new build for The Walking Dead: Empires. For most players, you probably won’t notice any difference in your gameplay. On the tech side, however, this update is absolutely critical to future work we’re planning.
This build will add new tools to help us manipulate and adjust game code. Overall, it will speed up the process of implementing new features going forward.
The first major test of these new tools may be noticeable to some players. We’ll be adding the initial pieces of an all-new first time user experience. This will be an iterative process. Each step of this tutorial content will be added incrementally until the feature is complete.
Adjusted Event Schedule
As we said when we first released weekly events, we’re keeping a close eye on the data to make these are as fun and engaging for players as possible. This is what releasing a public development build is all about! We’re listening to your feedback and watching the data to continually refine and improve your experience while you survive.
First, the Survivor’s Trial XP event has been removed. We noticed that players weren’t engaging with this one as much as the others, so we’ve eliminated it entirely for right now.
Second, events will no longer last a full week. On Monday through Thursday each week, you’ll stock up those materials for the Deadland Scavenge event. Weekends will then alternate between events focused on crafting or wiping out walkers each week.
It’s our hope that these adjustments give the events a little more purpose, as you’ll be able to put the materials you gathered throughout the week to good use on the weekend!
As always, we’ll be watching the events closely and making adjustments as needed to improve.
Sasha Sale
Sasha will be the first direct purchase Hero available in August! Recruit Sasha to your empire on Friday, August 2nd at 7am PT.
Sasha was a hardened survivor, capable of fighting her way through incredible hardships. While she often carried the scars of the past, she never lost her ferocity or pragmatic instincts.
Starting this Friday, Sasha will be able to bring her abilities to your empire. Sasha was always there to fight for the people she cares about. Will your empire welcome her home?
This sale will run with a tiered pricing structure. As the supply of any rarity Uncommon or higher decreases, its price will incrementally increase.
Common Heroes will stay at one low price throughout the entire sale.
As usual, any Sasha purchased in this sale will fulfill directly to GalaChain and be usable in-game right away.
This sale will not be time-limited. All rarities will remain available until their supply is exhausted or until further notice.
Building Bigger
Thank you for playing the public development build of The Walking Dead: Empires! As we build more features and world, your feedback is indispensable for continually improving the game.
There’s definitely more coming for August, but this will get us started for now. Stay tuned for upcoming news, and don’t forget to grab Sasha in The Walking Dead: Empires store on Friday!
In our continuous effort to enhance the security of GalaChain, we are implementing a significant security upgrade to the GalaSwap API that will require action from users of the API. If you’re using the GalaSwap API, we appreciate your cooperation in this process to ensure that your integration continues to operate correctly.
Security Upgrade Overview
This update focuses on enhancing the security of API operations by standardizing the signature process. Moving forward, GalaChain will only accept one specific signature out of the two possible valid signatures for any given operation. As a result, API users must update their signing code to generate the newly accepted signature. Failure to do so will cause approximately half of your signed requests to the GalaSwap API to fail with an error message such as “S value is too high.”
Required Actions
Review and Update Request Signing: Please consult the updated Request Signing section of the GalaSwap API documentation. Ensure that your signatures are normalized according to the new guidelines provided in the example code.
Update Your Code Before August 1, 2024: It is critical to update your code to comply with the new signature requirements before the deadline. This includes users of Gala’s open-source bot, who should pull the latest version of the bot’s code. If you interact with third-party services using the GalaSwap API, consult the operators of those services to confirm they are also prepared for this change.
Why This Matters
This proactive security improvement is not a response to any current vulnerabilities but a strategic enhancement to our security protocols. For more information on the technical details and the importance of this update, refer to this informative article on Signature Malleability. Thanks for your prompt attention and support for this important update. Ensuring the security and integrity of GalaChain remains our top priority, and we appreciate your cooperation in achieving this goal. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please reach out to Gala Support.
