The Bux’d Bulletin

The Bux’d Bulletin

Hi everyone,

So this month’s update is a little different, and a little ahead of time! Earlier this week we shared a ‘to do’ list, which was put together by Taco, based on community questions, concerns and feedback.

I set myself and the team a challenge to get through as many of the items as we could and below you can see the update, activity or action for each one.

Ahead of the list, a couple of key data points for you, for July 28!

We have:

More than 76k tracks now paired and available to the platform

More than 21k unique BEAM holders

More than 70 artists with:

  • Jewel Chang
  • PLS&TY
  • September Mourning

Having the most BEAMS held against them

The most engaged artist in our community this month was Wrighteous J from City of Sound, followed by Emily Lazar of September Mourning and Darren Claxton (thanks guys!).

We have now had more than 70k people come and play now.

Our top three countries for listeners are currently:

  • The US
  • Brazil
  • South Korea

We also hit 3 million streams — not bad … but there’s still a long way to go yet!

Okay on to Taco’s list:

1. Jane Handcock collectibles

These were sent out to eligible holders on Thursday (July 28)

2. Stash Box new drops

We have just received and are currently reviewing the casting tapes for ‘Snoop’s House’ the show that as mentioned in my last update will be tokenized for qualifying Stash Box holders. I will also be syncing with team Snoop around both a UK and US meet up later this summer and we have the Making of the Chronic Film collectibles to deliver soon — we have one more legal hurdle for their release to you.

3. Monthly platform draw (plus prior months)

We haven’t done this (in honesty I am unsure as to why), but we will get up to speed and do the April-August draws in August, and may well use AA experiences as well as tracks.

4. Orb Utility/BT update

We are currently working on our line up for EDM week and will ensure there is a bonus drop for orb holders within this too.

5. Node owner love

We do — we also have been talking about legacy beams (the ‘campaign’ was somewhat hard to ignore …) and while no commitment has been made, there have been discussions on how this would be viewed ahead of token launch (time legacy tracks held rather than plays).

6. Legacy beams

See above

7. Bridging back to ETH

This will be available next week — I was hoping for this feature to be released Monday (July 31), but I think with QA, the guys are more comfortable with a deployment anytime from Wednesday (August 02) — we will confirm.

8. Purchasing directly to GYRI

This update will happen with the above — and we will have a write up on the full capabilities and impact of our contract upgrade coming out next week.

9. Algo V2

Our popularity algorithm has been updated to better reflect plays off of the Gala Music platform — we have done this ahead of names with significant fan bases coming on to the platform (starting in August) and would note to you all that Snoop, Mount Westmore and other more established artist tracks are likely going to fair better, distribution wise than they did previously. A full write up around this as well as BEAMS versus Points in the All Access Store will be dropping Monday (July 31)

10. KOL details

Unfortunately we cannot speak on this yet.

11. More Giveaways

Doing much more of these, right now focus is on UA (user acquisition), but also ensuring that community members who engage with activities on the platform are able to opt into competitions via our ‘stages’ and/or ‘spaces’, as well as by watching and listening to content such as Top of the Drops.

12. App release date

We will have the Beta version of the App ready late August! And are going to be asking members of the community to lean in a little with testing too!

13. Taco merch/experiences in All Access

While not a priority (… I know mean Bux), we have done 3 Taco inspired giveaways this week alone — the TACO CHICKEN for GET PLUCKED! (the new game coming soon from VOX), the $250 food voucher (well, you can buy tacos with it …) and the Taco jacket giveaway which you can enter via this week’s Top of the Drops.

14. Review TOTD feedback

We have gathered feedback on this and some other high level engagement aspects — bringing new listeners and supporters in is key, but it’s much easier (and more realistic) when the others already here are having an optimal experience!

15–19

We didn’t get to (… I guess we do need Taco)

  • Scavenger hunt across Music/Film/Vox
  • Support socials on TikTok engagement
  • Exclusive Sound Booth activities
  • Dial in audio in stages for live music streaming
  • Finalize Spider Tanks Tourney planning

As always the team and I will be in and around discord to ensure we’re answering questions and keeping you up to date. There will, as the list says above, be updates on BEAMS/Points in relation to All Access and information around the technical updates and enhanced experience releases (including App testing) during the first week of August.

In the meantime if you would be kind enough to show some support for artists and what we’re doing on socials (including watching Top of the Drops!) and/or perhaps fill in our feedback form (doing so before Sunday 12PM PT means you’ll also receive a special Taco, VOX Chicken), it would be greatly appreciated,

Sending my best to you all,

Bux

Introducing Spider Friends

Introducing Spider Friends

What’s better than playing with your friends? Getting rewarded for it, of course!

The community of Pilots competing in arenas throughout the Planetary Cluster is a tight-knit group. In the arena, there’s no mercy for your opponent. When the missiles are disarmed though, Pilots generally watch out for each other, share tips and tricks, and otherwise just have a great time together.

Now, just because the arena is such a friendly place doesn’t mean we don’t have room for some new friends. The more the merrier! The veteran Pilots in the arena have been forged in the crucible of combat, but there always needs to be new challengers eager to take their place as legends of the arena.

The Spider Friends Referral Program

Spider Tanks is great to play with friends, so we thought it was time to put a little bonus in place for players who spread the word and introduce new people to the arena!

With this system, you’ll be able to receive free Tank Parts as you bring more players into the game. We know playing with friends is already a reward all by itself… but what’s not better with a free Tank!?

Each time you refer a friend that racks up 10 wins, you’ll get a little closer to your next free part. We’ll be checking these referrals monthly, so expect to get rewards for any qualifying referrals each month as Tank Parts get shipped out across the solar system!

Program Details

Any player who is new to Gala Games that signs up using your referral link will count towards your Spider Friends progress. You can find this link in the top navigation bar of games.gala.com, under ‘Refer A Friend’.

Once someone signs up using your link though, that won’t be quite enough to qualify for referral credit. This is the arena after all, and there’s something very important that every new player must do before they’re officially a Pilot… Win!

Players you refer to Spider Tanks will only further your progress in Spider Friends once they win 10 matches. After they’ve won 10 matches, they’ll count towards your total referrals and you’ll get closer to that next free tank part. You won’t get any added perks for any wins beyond their 10th… but it’ll sure pay off when you party up with them to grind up some ranks!

As you refer more qualifying players, you’ll climb through the following rewards:

These rewards may change in the future, but we’ll keep you updated when that does happen. For now, these rewards will be available to all Spider Tanks players as long as they meet the requirements.

Each month we’ll check who meets the criteria for each level of rewards listed above so we can send your shiny new parts over!

Metal on Metal Friendship

We know that the real reward for bringing your friends into a game you enjoy is getting to play alongside those friends… but who doesn’t love some extra goodness?

The arena is a great place to build real and meaningful relationships as you struggle for victory with or against your friends! We know that we’ve definitely made some of our closest friends down the nose cone of a rocket or in the quiet moments before that Reactive Plating BOOM.

Spider Friends is live now, and there’s never been a better time to bring your friends into the arena. Now, go forth! Tell everyone you know. Shout it from the rooftops! We’ll be waiting for you in the arena with all our friends.

Know a super friendly player from around the arena? Call them out in the comments and thank them for helping make our community awesome!

The 4th Bundle — Last Expedition

The 4th Bundle — Last Expedition

Last Expedition Node Operator’s licenses are available once again in limited supply, along with a new Hunter’s Pack, which will soon unlock early access for anyone.

The hairs on the back of your neck stand at attention as you crouch motionless, watching in frozen terror as the Forest Snapper devours yet another member of your team. Maybe this one will move on and leave me alone, you think. Maybe it will let me reach the core and still escape with my life. But by the time your brain finishes the second thought, another Snapper (the one behind you) has already started biting. Good night!

Just in time for the weekend’s SDCC festivities at our Gala-branded Club Clandestine event, we’re kicking off the next Operator’s Bundle sale!

With 1000 licenses up for grabs this time, early access is closer than you think, and it’s not only OP’s who will have access to the latest new builds…

Introducing the Hunter’s Early Access Pack

This is how anyone with a Gala Games account will unlock the ability to play Last Expedition throughout the Early Access phase of the game’s rollout– No Operator’s license required!

Simply buy a Hunter’s Early Access Pack in the Gala Games store and you’ll get in on the action as soon as the new build is released.*

*Rather than immediately releasing the new build only to OP’s, the team decided to first implement the ability for anyone to gain access via an early access token on GalaChain. This will be completed in the near future.

Hunter’s Pack Rewards

  • One Early Access Token, for all the newest builds
  • Rare “Ice” skin, exclusive item for Attacker Alice Mackaye
  • Access to special dev-led events. Meet the devs and beat ’em at their own game!

Soon, the Early Access token from the Hunter’s Early Access Pack will be the only way for Gala Games players to enjoy consistent early access to the latest game builds.

The 4th Bundle

This is the fourth time Last Expedition Operator’s licenses have been sold. These Bundle sales are always limited in both supply and time.

First, the Ancient Primal Ravager Bundle was released on November 18th, followed by the Ancient Primal Bone Snapper on December 16th, 2022. The 3rd bundle in late March brought us the Primal Porcupine, and now it’s time to reveal the Uncommon Forest Snapper!

The main item in the bundle is the Last Expedition Operator’s License, which allows you to run a Last Expedition Node on GalaChain to power gameplay, run a custom server, and eventually receive rewards in exchange for that computing power.

Each Operator’s license purchased comes with an apex predator NFT that we call an OP Mod, designed to… let’s say spice up your server.

This bundle also comes with 4 Early Access Tokens. These aren’t usable yet, but hold them in your account, because as stated above, we’ll soon have the ability to use these Early Access Tokens on GalaChain to unlock access to the game.

Subscription Club

When you buy an Operator’s license for Last Expedition, you’re basically joining an OP Mod subscription club. Everyone who purchased a license in the first bundle sale, for example, automatically has received the OP Mod that came with each subsequent sale.

Basically, someone who bought the Ancient Primal Ravager bundle in the first sale would also have received the Bone Snapper and the Porcupine, and they’ll also receive the Forest Snapper.

Anyone who buys the Forest Snapper will be in the subscription from here on out. Get the picture?

The Future is Almost Here

If you thought Last Expedition was impressive when you first noticed it, you ain’t seen nothing yet. The team has some incredible new demo footage that they’re ready to air at Saturday afternoon’s Last Expedition Comic-Con panel. That will be an absolute treat for everyone in attendance, and we’ll be sure to share the footage with you as soon as it’s available.

We can hardly wait to open this bad boy up for early access and show everyone just what we’re so excited about when it comes to Last Expedition.

We’ve got private, custom servers operating on a decentralized network of Nodes powered by GalaChain, hosting one of the most riveting and visually stunning games we’ve ever seen.

If you’re out there looking for the future of video games, look no further. We found it.

The Vision | REP, Powered by GalaChain

REP shares its vision for the future of social media, powered by GalaChain

As recently announced in THIS BLOG, REP is coming to GalaChain. It’s already built on a NEAR testnet, and its full features will blow you away once integrated with the max power of Gala Games’ blockchain.

Today, we’re pleased to share REP’s extensive Vision Paper, published as a downloadable PDF through THIS LINK.

We hope this Vision Paper informs our community about the intentions behind REP, as well as the outlined plans for execution of this groundbreaking web3 social network.

The Future of REP on GalaChain

As we build REP on GalaChain and roll it out in the months ahead, our intention is to demonstrate its capabilities by creating Gala Friends, the Gala Games social network you deserve.

We’re incredibly tempted to share all our treasure hunt plans with you in advance, but that would probably spoil the fun, so we’ll try to stay strong… Looking at you, BitBender.

We’ll leave you today with a letter from REP founder Neil Haran, also added as a foreword to the REP Vision Paper. Thanks as always for being part of this community!

Vision Paper Letter

It was back in 2002 when my journey in video game development began. Working with giants like Vivendi, Electronic Arts, and LucasFilm, I contributed to major titles like Simpsons Hit & Run, Hulk, and Scarface. The year 2008 presented an important crossroad in my career — choosing between Blizzard and Zynga. My choice was swayed during an interview with Eric Schiermeyer, now founder and CEO of Gala Games, and I took the Zynga path.

That choice gave me invaluable insight into gamification’s impact, a lesson that would later become instrumental in my blockchain initiatives. But there was a darker side, and by 2010, I had seen enough. With a desire to contribute positively to the gaming world, I launched my own gaming company, focusing on educational games. We brought to life a game called Rawbots which was a game to help kids learn physics, programming and robotics. This venture was intense, thrilling, and exhausting, and eventually, it led me to a new arena — blockchain.

Over the years, my activist side found purpose in the world of blockchain technology. I aimed to create simple, user-friendly interfaces to bring this groundbreaking technology to the masses. The vision? Next-gen social networks. The foundation? Gamification and cooperation.

I’ve always been drawn to the idea of using gamification to inspire positive societal behavior, like the ‘pay it forward’ ethos — an idea that resonated deeply with me. This passion, combined with my commitment to usability, drew me back to collaborating with Eric Schiermeyer. He understood the importance of building interfaces so simple they could be called “stupid simple”, a philosophy we adopted at Zynga.

Alongside these ventures, I’ve been an observer and critic of social media’s monopolistic and exploitative practices. A particular turning point was when Mark Zuckerberg revealed his stark hypocrisy regarding personal data privacy. His cavalier attitude towards our rights motivated me to cut ties with Facebook, a decision I’ve never regretted.

As I see the ongoing war between Twitter and Threads, it is clear to me that the need for a privacy-respecting, censorship-resistant, fully on-chain social network is paramount. A platform where users truly own their data. This belief drives my work with Gala Games.

The gamified social network we’re building will not only connect Gala Games, Gala film & music, and anything NFT related but also provide a seamless experience for users navigating the metaverse. We’re also paving the way for NFT interoperability across games. Imagine being able to find Spider Tanks NFTs not only on Earth, but also in our game Rawbots with its billions of star systems. You could find spider tank weapons on some planets, which could also be integrated as robot parts within Rawbots.

Embarking on this journey with Gala Games is truly exhilarating. We’re dedicated to ensuring that you truly own your digital experience, and we can’t wait to unveil what we’re putting together. Welcome to the future of social media. Welcome to REP.

Gala Games Throws Immersive SDCC Party, with Demos, Branded Food Trucks and More!

Gala Games Throws Immersive SDCC Party, with Demos, Branded Food Trucks and More!

The San Diego convention couldn’t possibly fit all this excitement, so we’re renting out the iconic brewery down the street!

This year, Gala Games is throwing a party you won’t forget. From July 20–22, we’re transforming the Mission Brewery Tasting Room at 131 14th Street into a magical immersive experience we call Club Clandestine. It’s a place where SDCC gamer guests in the know can escape the madness for a bit and let their imaginations wander in a world of fun, games, and camaraderie.

The Daytime Party

Our party kicks off on Thursday from 2–6pm PT, and continues on Friday and Saturday from 12–4pm PT. We’re going all-out with mouth-watering tacos from Taco Love, served right out of one of at least two majestic Gala Games Taco Trucks. Picture this: incredible games, delicious tacos, refreshing Gala Games branded brews, and a community of gamers just as passionate as you. Sounds like the perfect party, doesn’t it?

And ice cream! Almost forgot to mention the ice cream!

But it doesn’t stop there. We’re offering party guests a complimentary pack of several NFTs from participating Gala Games, along with exclusive sale prices on certain items. The Club Clandestine party is the hub of all things Gala Games throughout the weekend — a place for relaxation, play, and meeting fellow Gala Gamers. It’s not just a party, it’s the ultimate Gala Games IRL experience, just a quick stroll from the main event.

The Nighttime Party

Gala Gold members are invited to a special VIP party on Friday evening, from 6–11pm at Club Clandestine. You should have already received an email. If you have joined Gold more recently than yesterday and are planning to attend this party, let us know in Discord and we’ll make sure you have the “ticket.”

Got the too-far-from-San Diego blues? Don’t worry, you’ll find plenty of excitement as a Gala Gamer right there at home, with more games to play, more things to do and more prizes to chase.

Everyone at home should check out Thursday’s special on-location episode of Ahead of the Game with BitBender, straight from Club Clandestine at 4pm PT. That’s right during the first day’s open hours, so guests might even have opportunities to appear on the show!

The Games

At Gala Games, we’re not just about throwing epic parties; we’re serious about our games too. That’s exactly why relocating to the SDCC neighborhood for the event. With this massive close-by venue, we’ll showcase our incredible AAA games that blend cutting-edge technology and web3 empowerment.

Let’s take a closer look at each of our main showcase titles for this event, and why each of them is so special to us and our community.

Last Expedition

Fans of Last Expedition will be especially excited, because we’ve got an amazing new build for guests to explore. Yep, this is the Unreal 5 version, the same build that you may have seen leaked by our own Jason “BitBender” Brink during one of his weekly streams.

Update Added 7/20/23

The 4th Operator’s license bundle sale just kicked off on July 20th! 1000 Operator’s license bundles are available. Learn more at the blog below:

This time, in addition to the Operator’s license bundle, the team has also released a new bundle package called the Hunter’s Early Access Pack, which includes an Early Access Token that will soon unlock access to the latest build.

We’re proud of the cutting edge AAA quality that oozes from every play and view of Last Expedition. Others are just as amazed, and we’re excited to join the illustrious lineup of Comic-Con Panels. The panel will delve into the game with a lineup of its creators on Saturday afternoon.

Spider Tanks

Spider Tanks is live and completely free, and if you haven’t played yet, you may be missing out on your next hobby. The pvp tank brawler has arena esports written all over it, and the web3 ownership aspects powered by GalaChain absolutely knock this game out of the park.

Did you know that anyone can start to earn SILK for playing Spider Tanks for free? It’s true. The development team has been working hard to create a sustainable economic system, and it is working. New players can borrow Tanks, while Tank owners can use their Drop Pods to lend out their Tanks, sharing the rewards.

Another incredible ability of GalaChain demonstrated by Spider Tanks is on-chain item upgrades, which allow players the freedom to grind their way to permanently increased stats on their NFT items!

We suggest you all start playing Spider Tanks ASAP, so you can be ready skillswise when all the serious competition arrives. The guests at our SDCC Mission Brewery party will get to experience it for themselves in one of our multiple gaming lounges.

The Walking Dead: Empires

We’re opening up a brand new test build of The Walking Dead: Empires to the entire community throughout Comic-Con. Come, explore the thrilling world of AMC’s The Walking Dead in the post-apocalyptic survival MMO alongside your fellow gamers.

This playtest is live from July 20th-July 23rd, the duration of San Diego Comic-Con. If you really think about it, the folks at home are the real winners here– they’ll have plenty of time to dig in over the three day playtest.

The party will also feature playables of mobile-first games Champions Arena and Eternal Paradox. Sorry, no open community playtests for those this time, but our other mobile titles, Meow Match and Dragon Strike: Puzzle RPG are fully live and playable right now!

Ahead of the Game — On Location

Come hang out with BitBender in person!

Since the regular scheduled weekly show falls right into the first day of our Club Clandestine party at Mission Brewery, and since BitBender will be there in the flesh… We’ll bring you a live on-location show, straight from the party. That way you can see what you’re missing 😂. Seriously though, Jason live streaming from the party is your best chance of getting some killer leaks.

Set a notification for this special 4pm PT Thursday episode at the link below.

Specials and Sales

Let’s be honest here. We’re giving Club Clandestine party guests all sorts of swag and opportunities. But that doesn’t mean that the rest of you are missing out.

We can only assume the exclusive insider info will leak naturally when necessary. 😉

When SDCC 2023 starts, so does your Gala Games long weekend of playtest fun.

Rumor has it there will be a discount code going around the convention for 10–50% certain Gala Games items in the store. Hope that code doesn’t get out.
