Legends Reborn: Creature Packs and Alpha Test

Legends Reborn: Creature Packs and Alpha Test

A familiar item in Legends Reborn gets a fresh new name, and we share more details about our alpha playtest!

For months, players have been enjoying new Creatures created by hard working tokensmiths from across the land. The demand for these Ritual Stones has been so high that the largest tokensmith unions across Tolkheim are reporting a lack of the specific stone to continue producing Ritual Stones!

This doesn’t mean players will have to do without Creatures though! Tokensmiths everywhere are continuing to create packs of Creatures, though they’re getting away from the restrictive name of “Ritual Stone” since they’re now imbuing more traditional materials with these popular bundles.

“So basically, if we can’t get those stones from our source, we’ll just make Creature Packs the old fashioned way. People want their Creatures, they’re not all hung up on some special rock.”

-Cab Stallo, representative; Tokeneers local #7

Everyone will still receive the same great creatures from these Creature Packs that they have from Ritual Stones in the past!

Reintroducing: Creature Packs

In the past we introduced Ritual Stones — a magically imbued bundle containing three random Creatures. From this week on, these will now be referred to as “Creature Packs.” This is both for max clarity to players and to allow Tolkheim’s talented tokensmiths a little more flexibility in their crafting.

Every “Basic Ritual Stone” will now be called a “Creature Pack”

Every “Elite Ritual Stone” will now be called an “Epic Creature Pack”

Creature Packs are functionally the same as Ritual Stones– only the name has changed!

Everything you loved about Ritual Stones will remain the same. They can still be purchased in the Gala Games store, and any Ritual Stones you had in your inventory will change to the new Creature Pack names. They will still provide the same array of randomized Creatures when exchanged in your Gala Games inventory.

A Creature Pack contains three random Creatures of Common, Uncommon, Rare or Epic rarity. An Epic Creature Pack contains three Creatures — each guaranteed to be Epic, Legendary or Ancient rarity!

Creatures in Legends Reborn

In Legends Reborn, you summon Creatures to fight against your opponent. Your Creatures use Action Cards to square off against whatever your opponent brings to the table. These are in-game inventory items, though you can use a Scroll of Minting to tokenize them and trade with other players.

The first Scrolls of Minting were distributed during this year’s May Mayhem.

Each Creature has its own strengths and weaknesses — the wider variety of Creatures you can choose from, the more diverse strategies you could potentially play with. While a lot of strategy in Legends Reborn comes from which Creatures you use, the Action Cards you pair with your Creatures often refine your strategy. In the end, they could determine your fate at the table.

Every Creature can pair with up to six Action Cards through Improved Card Slots. Higher rarity Creatures have access to extra Improved Card Slots, which potentially let that creature access a wider variety of Action Cards.

Enter the Alpha Arena

The Legends Reborn alpha test started Today, October 20th at 12pm PT! Are you ready?

We’re excited for the community to really dig into this alpha build and see what the team at Kung Fu Factory has been working on! Players will have plenty of opportunity to compete for glory on the leaderboard during this test. The leaderboard will reset each week, which gives everyone multiple chances to fight for the top spot! Each reset, the top 10 players will earn the Legend of the Tables Discord roles.

The first week’s leaderboard will reset on October 27th, at 9:59am PT.

Players will be able to dust off their Venues and welcome contenders in the door during this test! Venue implementation is still limited, but this is a great first step towards your Venue feeling like a real place in Tolkheim.

You can check out more about how Venues will be used in the game from the recent Venue Spotlight below!

With this Alpha test getting started, keep your eyes open for more updates coming soon. There’s so much we’re excited to share with you as development progresses.

Spider Tanks Showcase: Bandit

Spider Tanks Showcase: Bandit

Today speed and agility take center stage as we unmask some of the most reliable strategies with the Bandit Body!

Welcome to another installment of The Spider Tanks Showcase! This week we’ll be looking at a Body that excels in quickness, but unlike other super speedy Bodies — like the Flea that we’ve previously showcased — the Bandit still brings balanced gameplay to the arena.

The Bandit gives up some of its Armor for an extra Speed advantage, but it doesn’t quite go to the extreme of some other Tank Bodies. Bandit still maintains a fairly respectable amount of Energy and Armor to ensure that Speed isn’t the only weapon in its arsenal.

Unlike its smaller cousins, this makes the Bandit not only capable of running down enemy tanks, but means they control the situation more when they actually catch them. A Bandit isn’t heavily Armored, but it can take a shot or two if it means unleashing destruction on multiple opponents. It still has the speed to dictate pace and positioning in most matchups… without feeling like it’s made of glass that drank too much espresso.

Hot Pursuit: Bandit/Lava Launcher

Bandit finds that nice middle ground where it can run down most fleeing Tanks without having to go out of its way to dodge every single hit. Whenever your team can get an enemy Tank separated from the support of their teammates, a Bandit can usually run them down and force them into further disorganization.

While we had the burning balls of the Lava Launcher in mind for this, it can work with any linear weapon that has decent range and gets more threatening as you get closer to the enemy. Cannon, Beat Blaster, Gatling Gun and many others could all potentially be great combos here!

This isn’t the cleanest strategy, and you’re going to take some hits. Remember to use your speed to run around and pick up some Armor after you go toe to toe with someone, or pack a Repair Drone to keep a repair on you when you need it most.

Tactical Assault: Bandit/Rocket Artillery

We’ve talked about controlling from a distance before, but compared to larger Tanks with heavier Armor, a Bandit brings a totally different feel to this playstyle. Laying down fire from a distance can be much more versatile at applying pressure to your foes.

Those enemy Tanks won’t let you just rain down rockets on them forever without coming for you. With a Bandit, you can outrun most everyone who gives you chase but you still have enough Armor to take the random shot. This flexibility allows you to focus on repositioning, rather than having to worry about dodging every single hit or running away from the action when someone comes after you.

This strategy can also be adapted to work with Repair Artillery. You’ll still do a little bit of damage to keep pressure on your opponents, but your efforts will be more dedicated to keeping your allies’ defenses hard. Bandit’s Speed is especially important playing this way, since annoyed Tanks will be chasing you around once they find they can’t destroy your teammates.

Listen Up: Bandit/Beatblaster

Bandit isn’t an impenetrable mass of metal like a Titan or even the Nomad that we focused on last week, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t meat shield up to provide openings for your teammates! Grab your opponent’s attention, then keep it by closing in on them while your squishier allies sneak up behind.

Since Bandit isn’t a super bulky Tank, a lot of opponents will prioritize attacking you to remove a threat from the field. With Bandit’s maneuverability though, quickly getting you out of the way may be easier said than done. The less ridiculous speed of Bandit compared to faster Tanks can actually provide a benefit here, since you’ll have a little easier time controlling your weapons and hitting those quick corners.

We chose the Beat Blaster from Snoop’s Bumpin’ Lowrider for this one, since it pushes the opposing Tank around when you get up close — further making the walls close in on your enemy. This could really be done with anything that keeps you maneuverable though. Keeping a Tank’s attention glued to you is more about positioning than what type of firepower you bring.

Out Like a Bandit

The Bandit may not be the fastest Tank around, but it packs more than enough Speed to be a versatile contender in any matchup. There are tons of cool and effective ways to play a Bandit. Try out different ways and see what works best for you!

Some rarities of Bandits are still available for purchase in the Gala Games Store!

Next week, things are going to get a little spooky around here. We’ll be zooming in on the harrowingly horrifying king of Halloween in the arena– The JACKED O’ Lantern!

Got builds for this fan favorite pumpkin? Let us know on Discord or in the comments below! We love to feature community feedback on strategies in these spotlights, so give us a shout to share your pumpkin wisdom!

The Haunted Maze | Town Star Halloween

The Haunted Maze | Town Star Halloween

Introducing the newest Town Star item, with spine-tingling passive abilities… If you build it, they will scream.

The leaves have almost fallen, giving the trees a sharp and desolate appearance as throughout town, everyone prepares for the chill of winter. The aroma of pumpkin spice wafts through town square, following a pumpkin harvest that was especially plentiful due to all that additional pumpkin storage going around.

While in town they’re getting ready for winter and making pumpkin pie, the most serious Town Star competitors are gearing up for Halloween and the eagerly anticipated Jack O’Lantern Meta!

Check out this sweet Halloween eye candy while you hone in your pumpkin game for next week’s Jack O’Lantern Meta, freshly leaked from this morning’s live Town Star Discord AMA (Youtube replay coming soon).

At Gala Games, we’re a bunch of big kids at heart, and we love Halloween. You may remember last year’s Galaween festivities, complete with some Town Star themed spooky stories and the Haunted Mansion, the game’s first ever modular in-game item with the power to produce passive oil or pumpkins.

We’re happy to announce that this year we’ve got another spooky modular adornment for your Town Star town. Step into the shadows of the Haunted Maze, if you dare.

First, let’s just get this out of the way: It’s haunted. Please don’t come crying to us when this thing haunts your dreams and you end up a character in some kind of bizarre IRL horror movie.

The Haunted Maze is no less haunted than last year’s Haunted Mansion, and that thing was pretty haunted.

Like with any good haunting, the power of all the curses, ghosts, and tormented poultrygeists continues to grow as their territory expands. That’s why there’s an exclusive Double, Double, Toil and Trouble Bonus for collecting and concurrently playing with all 4 Haunted Maze Zones.

The first Zone you’ll see in the Town Star store is the Epic Zone 1, with its passive Nectar bonus to 3 tiles.

Finding Your Way

The Haunted Maze consists of 4 zones, each more frightening than the last.

Haunted Maze — Zone 1 — Epic

3 Passive Nectar

First, venture bravely but with trepidation into Zone 1, with a little taste of all the frights you can expect as you venture through the twisted maze. Giant carnivorous plants produce passive nectar for your bees to enjoy, but beware! If you should turn your back on one of these monstrosities while standing too close, it will gobble you up head first before you can say “suddenly seymour.”

Haunted Maze — Zone 2 — Rare

2 Passive Clay

Next, if you can keep your terror in check, proceed toward Zone 2, where the living dead are quite helpful in the sense that they displace the clay-filled soil in which their corpses laid. Even the clay is hexed, causing it to expand to neighboring areas, but don’t worry. You can still use it just like normal clay.

Haunted Maze — Zone 3 — Legendary

Salty Proximity (for Salt Field timers — 2 radius)

Now your heart is really pounding as you head into Zone 3, the Legendary zone where the unattended witches’ brew has taken on a mind of its own, casting a bizarre spell on the ground and making it especially salty. Why is it Legendary? The legend says the witches will one day return to claim the potions they have been brewing since long before Halloween. The legend also says they’ll turn all the townsfolk into badgers, so let’s hope that brew stays unattended.

Haunted Maze — Zone 4 —Uncommon

1 Passive Nectar

Note: Above image incorrectly says “Rare.” We know and will change it soon.

You may think you can take no more, but only a single piece of the terrifying puzzle remains: Zone 4. In Zone 4 resides the great hollow tree, likely the creepiest tree you’ll ever see in a light-hearted game like Town Star. They say that within the tree lies the same sinister force that gives life to the carnivorous plants of Zone 1, so this zone also provides some passive nectar that your town’s bees can enjoy.

Double, Double, Toil and Trouble

Own and use all four separate zones of the Haunted Maze to double the eerie passive bonuses for surrounding areas. You don’t even have to place them next to each other. Just the sight of these 4 Zones at once will startle all your cows and sheep* into moving 25% faster.

*In an ironic twist, your chickens are especially brave and will not be scared into moving faster.

This is Town Star Halloween!

It’s all coming soon… Perhaps you should play some Town Star while you await more fun haunted news!.

Spider Tanks Showcase: Nomad

Spider Tanks Showcase: Nomad

We’re cruising into the arena today with a few different ways to roll over the competition using the Nomad Body!

Welcome back to the Spider Tanks Showcase! This week we’ll be making a sharp departure from last week’s nimble Flea, and adding a little more power and bulk into the mix.

This week we’re spotlighting the Nomad Body. It may not get around as quickly as a Flea, but it features superior Energy and more than a modest amount of Armor.

Unlike many tanks, Nomad must turn to move in a certain direction. This offers very little difference in terms of actual gameplay, but the feeling of being on wheels rather than legs can be tough for some Pilots to adjust to. The best things are worth it though, as Nomad can excel in certain situations due to its high Energy and Armor. Even with high durability and very high Armor, Nomad definitely can still get moving. Learning the nuances of a Nomad can be difficult, but a true master can use it to gain the upper hand in a lot of matchups.

Mobile Support: Nomad/Repair Artillery

The Nomad’s primary weakness is out maneuvering enemies when it gets in close quarters, so an obvious strategy seems to be to keep your distance. From afar you can take advantage of the Nomad’s high Energy and avoid having anything but open road to worry about.

Health Artillery

-SpencerH

Pair up your Nomad with a Repair Artillery and keep on moving in straight lines surrounding your allies. If the enemy wants to stop you from constantly healing your teammates, they’ll have to divert significant firepower to you. A Nomad is pretty tough, and that’s less attention they’re going to be paying to your allies.

You could always try this in assault mode with a Rocket Artillery instead, but there’s a special satisfaction in keeping your team essentially invulnerable as long as you cover them.

Death on Wheels: Nomad/Flamethrower

Nomad is pretty tough, and isn’t the slowest Tank Body around either. You may have some trouble outmaneuvering opponents on occasion, but keep your enemies on the defensive. Then they’ll have to respond to your lead.

Flamethrower

-Grizzly

With a close weapon like a Flamethrower, you can use a Relay Drone or a Disguise Drone to creep right up on enemy Tanks. With the heavy Armor offered by Nomad, you’ll get quite a chance to harass any nearby opponents before revving up and driving away.

Popping in on your opponents with an unexpected inferno may not take care of everybody, but it’s more than likely to take care of all the ones that can actually catch you as you drive away.

Hold the Line: Nomad/Cannon

Lacking the omnidirectional feel of other tanks, sometimes a Nomad’s best bet is to force the opponent to drive the way they do. If you can bottleneck your opponents, you can control their positioning quite well with Nomad’s mastery of straightaways. Add in high Energy, and Nomad can hold off the opposition for quite a while.

The benefit of Nomad over Titan is the Energy bonus due to non-omni movement.

-Gonzo

You’re going to take a hit or two — Nomad has the armor for that. This is about control. If you can narrow your opponent’s field of movement, you can just cruise back and forth to make yourself a tough target to hit while you lay down fire. While we love a good Cannon combo, this can be effectively done with any linear Weapon. (Looking at you Beat Blaster!)

Your Abilities will be what really makes this work. Depending on your team, you could use Turrets to exercise extra directional control over enemy Tanks, grab a Repair Drone for extra durability, or any combo that you like. A Nomad has high Energy and this strategy is all about slowing your opponent down. You have all the time in the world to use your Abilities.

Nomad Tough

The Nomad may require a little finesse than some other Tank Bodies, but a great Nomad Pilot can do some serious damage. Like any Tank Body out there, the best way to play it is the way that works for you.

Nomads of some rarities are still available in the Gala Games Store today!

That’s it on the Nomad, but we’ll be back again soon with another Spider Tanks Showcase. Next week we’ll be spotlighting the Bandit, so get ready to unmask a few strategies behind this quick Tank Body.

Got builds you love for the Bandit? Want to spread your knowledge for the next generation of Pilots? Let us know what your favorite combos are on Discord or in the comments below!

Galaxian Highlights #11 | Diplomacy Unleashed

Galaxian Highlights #11 | Diplomacy Unleashed

Here we are once again to bring you another closeup of a professional with unparalleled expertise, working diligently to bring you the future of entertainment.

The future isn’t created in private. These days, we don’t labor in solitude, racing each other to bring the future to life. We craft our future together. Collaborating and cooperating to bring something new into life is the way of Web3, and those that change the world of the tomorrow are the ones who understand that today.

Today we’re focusing on someone who understands that what connects us is more important than what drives us apart. Each day, he’s out there fostering commonality and communication between disparate communities, bringing people together to forge authentic connections, and reminding us that a growing Web3 world doesn’t mean we need to be further apart.

Decentralization can’t mean isolation, and there’s one man working hard everyday to make sure that it never does — Wasif!!!

What is your role at Gala Games?

Senior Manager of Web3 Marketing — Classy Barbarian

Why did you choose your Galaxian Title?

I play D&D and the first class I ever played was a Barbarian. The class has a reputation for being straightforward and crass. However, I find the direct and sincere nature of Barbarians to be their most likable characteristic. As a marketer, direct and sincere communication can be a powerful way to engage with consumers.

What inspired you to do what you do for a living?

While I was in grad school, I was watching a lot of Mad Men. The show has its issues and it does not paint an altogether flattering picture of the advertising industry, but I became obsessed with the artistry of salesmanship and persuasion.

More than anything, I learned that effective marketing is done through storytelling and I wanted to hone my skills in this area. I switched my concentration from finance to marketing and never looked back. Many people who watch Mad Men admire Don Draper, but I always saw myself in Peggy Olsen and admired her career trajectory from Don’s assistant to a marketing executive who outshined her mentor.

Favorite book?

For fiction, I really love The Witcher series by Andrezej Sapkowski. It’s incredible how a book translated from Polish can still carry its rhythmic –almost poetic– cadence in English. It’s also nice to see how much the world of The Witcher has tapped into mainstream culture via the video games by CD Project Red and the Netflix Series.

For Non Fiction, I really love the Power of Now by Ekhart Tolle. Helped me get through some of my challenges with overthinking.

Favorite part of the Gala Games community?

People here have a great sense of humor. For such a large company, the jokes and banter over Slack makes it feel like we all know each other.

Turtle or Tortoise?

Squirtle and Blastoise?

What are your favorite games?

For Triple A titles — I love Witcher 3, Dark Souls, Skyrim, StarCraft, WoW, Overwatch, League, MTGA, Smash, Streetfighter and Soul Calibur.

Wasif during his vacation to Windhelm last year. Unfortunately, it was cut short due to political turmoil.

For Indie Titles, I am a big fan of all things Supergiant. Bastion and Pyre hold a special place in my heart. I also love Stardew Valley and the 1 man studio behind the game.

Favorite music?

I was a metalhead as a kid. Loved System of a Down, Disturbed, Godsmack, and Korn. Got into heavier stuff as I got older, like Lamb of God, As I Lay Dying and some classics like Iron Maiden. In college I got into more prog metal like Tool and Dream Theater. My tastes have changed over time and these days I listen to a lot of lofi hip hop radio — beats to relax/study to.

Biggest role models?

Muhammad Ali and Malcolm X

Cool hobbies and interests?

Normie Hobbies: Photography, Drums, Biking, Camping, Hiking, Writing, NFTs, AI Art.

Nerdy Hobbies: Video Games, Tabletop Games, Magic the Gathering, Warhammer 40k, DND, Gloomhaven, World Building, Miniature Painting.

Proudest gaming moment ever?

I completed the Endless Setlist on Rock Band 1 with my friends. It was 64 songs in a row and took us 6 hours to complete.

Favorite Food?

Ramen and Pizza

Least favorite food?

Pineapple on pizza and Chicago deep dish pizza…you can probably tell I am from New York.

If you were on a deserted island and could only have 1 game, what would it be?

Skyrim

This would NEVER get old.

Ninja or Pirate?

Pirate

Never would’ve guessed it.

Skydiving or spa day?

Spa Day

Our most sincere thanks to Wasif for sharing a little about himself today. There are a lot of people who really make magic happen here, but he was one we just couldn’t miss on our tour through the Galaverse.

Where will we head next? What dynamic expert falls under the spotlight in our twelfth edition? You can guess, but we’re not giving the answer away just yet. You’ll have to stay tuned and see us back here in a few weeks for yet another Galaxian Highlight!
