Spider Tanks players will have a chance to win a share of $1.5 million in May prizes
It was less than a week ago that GAMEDIA’s Spider Tanks announced the open Early Release of the latest build, giving everyone in the community a chance to experience the epic esports action of Spider Tanks.
Some previous playtests of the game have been restricted to only those who own NFT Tanks. Now, thanks to a small series of rotating free Tanks that cannot be upgraded, even non owners can get in on the action.
Later in May (Date TBA), the no-value TCTESTCOIN test* of Spider Tanks rewards will conclude and SILK will officially begin distribution. Whether or not you own Tanks and plan to take advantage of these early rewards, we think you’ll have a great time competing for various prize pools throughout May Mayhem with Spider Tanks.
*TCTESTCOIN will eventually disappear from all wallets and test upgrades will revert.
May Mayhem Mayhem
The whole community is abuzz with talk of May Mayhem, which promises to be the most concentrated event of rewards ever orchestrated by Gala. The festivities are designed to say thank you to our beloved community.
In addition to the $4 million in total GALA that will be distributed, targeted free NFTs across several titles will reward the holders of specific NFTs all month long.
Play for Keeps
We’re prepared to give out a bunch of GALA to competitive Spider Tanks players each week based on the following criteria. To play the game, just download the Gala Games Launcher on a Windows PC at THIS PAGE.
Week 1 — Beginning May 2 at 9am PT Total Prizes: $250,000 in GALA $125k to top 1–2% for Most Matches Played $125k to top 3–10% for Most Matches Played
Week 2 — Beginning Wednesday, May 11th at 9am PT Total Prizes: $250,000 in GALA This competition will consist of a separate daily contest in which players will compete for the highest points earned in a single match. Look for more details coming next week before the week 2 competition begins.
Weeks 3 and 4
We’ll be changing it up for the 3rd and 4th week of May Mayhem, and we’re not going to spill the details just yet. Stay tuned.
Own and Earn
Have you taken a good look at what’s coming for the Spider Tanks economy? As a world class esport with arena-level potential, it will create new opportunities for gamers everywhere to own and earn on their own terms.
May Mayhem is going to be an absolute blast for all the newcomers we expect to welcome into the Gala Games Ecosystem, and we hope they can all realize the positive impact Web3 can have in their own lives.
The Spider Tanks economy thrives on ownership, like any successful Web3 gaming economy. The most effective way to earn real rewards through playing Gala Games is owning property in those games. We are pleased to offer the ability for free players to fully enjoy our games, and in some cases, even unlock relatively small earning potential. Still, economy-driven Web3 games like Spider Tanks are built to primarily reward the owners of in-game items.
If you’re trying Spider Tanks for the first time and loving it, take a look at the items in the Gala Games store, or browse the secondary market at OpenSea. You might find a great deal, and you might find playing and earning utilities to be the perfect reason to start an NFT collection of your own.
We’ll catch you with the next May Mayhem update. See you on the Spider Tanks battlefield!
It’s time for a name change, a new look, and a chance to meet the developers of the upcoming Web3 tower defense title from Gala.
The upcoming Gala tower defense game is ready to share more of its development with the community. First, the game formerly known as Fortified is now…
Fortitude
Do not worry, the name change is merely due to unforeseen licensing issues and the boring legal details are not at all epic, or even pageworthy. Fortitude is the Web3 strategy tower defense game you have been waiting for.
Gala Games is thrilled to formally welcome South Korea-based developer ROUND2 to the Ecosystem. Let’s get to know the developers.
This section was presented to the ROUND2 team as a series of written questions.
All details mentioned are entirely subject to change for any reason.
Let’s start right off with what everyone wants to know. How is development going? On a percentage scale, how complete is the game?
(Youngjun) We are working hard to release the Alpha build. But we are still at the Alpha stage, so I’d say the progress in development would be at about 50–60%. We still have a long way to go, but we are making steady progress.
Are there any estimates yet on when the community may have its first playable demo or beta version?
(Youngjun) Our plan is to release the Alpha version that we are working on at Galaverse Malta as a playable demo. You know when Galaverse is, right? We aim this autumn for the Beta release.
What is it about the PvP Tower Defense genre that lends itself especially well to Web3, reward economies and non-fungible tokens?
(Youngjun) PvP tower defense is a genre where you compete your strategies against other players, such as how to place towers and how to mobilize your army consisting of Hero/Troop/Spell in battles.
(Seulki) It is a traditional genre that offers the elements “proven” to be fun, where you get to build your town and increase its value, protect my value and compete with others.
(Youngsik) I believe combining Web3, reward economy, and NFT will allow players to create added value to their towns (that they built and grew), to raise the value of the towns, and distribute the values. As the values are created by players themselves, they are entitled to appropriate rights and rewards, and this new system will make it possible.
(Youngjun) Accordingly, we expect that will even reinforce the purpose of gameplay. Also, by turning various in-game elements (e.g. Tower/Hero/Troop) into NFTs, it will further amplify the importance of strategy in combining different elements, like a trading card game.
(Youngsik) I am curious how high an NFT’s value can go depending on its in-game power or rarity.
Other than the Towers that have already been sold, can you give us some idea of what types of in-game NFTs will be presold for Fortitude?
(Youngjun) Above all, we plan to sell NFT Lands, which will be at the core of the game. The ecosystem of Fortitude starts from buying or leasing this NFT land. I believe we will have an opportunity to explain details to the Gala community. Other than the land, we are discussing with Gala Games which one we can pre-sell out of Hero, Troop, and Tower.
(Seulki) In the future, we hope to listen to the community and make NFTs that will make players satisfied.
Can you list some of the games that ROUND2 has developed or worked on in the past?
(Seulki) We worked on Brawl Busters, which is a brawl action game released on PC. As for mobile games, we also worked on a variety of games, including Water Margin, and Attack on Titan (Tower Defense); Enneas Saga, and First Summoner (RPG); and Defense War: Destiny Child (Puzzle Defense). We take pride in having introduced various high-quality games to the market.
How did you first hear about Gala Games?
(Seulki) When you are working in the industry for over 20 years, you get to hear many stories. With the rise of the NFT in recent years, I got to know about Gala Games when many people in the field mentioned the company, which had been attracting a lot of attention for its most pioneering activities.
Fortunately, a former colleague of mine at Nexon was working at Gala Games and he reached out to us, so we were able to join this amazing vision.
Other than Fortitude, what upcoming game in the Gala Games Ecosystem are you most excited about?
(Youngjun) I am personally excited about Superior, Legends Reborn, and Last Expedition. Superior because I like Rogue-like, Rogue-lite genres; Legends Reborn because I like Deck Building genre; and Last Expedition because I am curious how FPS and P2E will be combined.
Will any members of the team be attending our Malta Galaverse event in June?
(Youngjun) Probably yes? It is quite a long trip from Korea to Malta, though.
(Seulki) Definitely yes. It is geographically very far, but it will be a very important event to reveal and promote Fortitude to the world.
Can our Discord community look forward to any new Fortitude leaks coming soon?
(Youngjun) We have been sharing our development status, progress, and game resources development with Gala Games on a regular basis. I am sure Gala Games will continue to leak? I am grateful for the amazing support and interest that the community has shown every time there was a leak. Please note that not all leaks will be used 100% in actual game development, though.
Will Fortitude include any fantasy creatures like Orcs, Goblins, Elves? If so, which ones?
(Youngjun) Fortitude basically has a variety of fantasy-based creatures. It has a sense of dark fantasy, where the creatures that are classified as “monsters” appear more among others. In addition to well-known Orc and Goblin, we have Knoll, Ogre, Skeleton, Gnome, and Wraith.
(Seulki) You will see well-known races as well as our original creatures and heroes. You will not be disappointed.
Is there any backstory or lore prepared for Fortitude that can be shared at this time?
(Youngjun) Do you know a game called Serious Sam? There is a rumor that someone in the development team is plotting to put Easter eggs related to Serious Sam to pay homage to the game.
At Gala Games, we absolutely love our jobs, and day after day we’re able to pursue things we love and are passionate about. What do you love most about making video games?
(Seulki) We are committed to making a game which we can be proud of and we can enjoy playing ourselves. We are talented developers but picky users as well.
I know we can’t satisfy everyone, but Fortitude will be a great game for those who have a similar taste as ours.
Can you describe some of the opportunities you see for our industry in the future, once gamers everywhere are empowered through real ownership and rewards?
(Youngjun) Shouldn’t this question be directed to a scholar, not a developer? (laughter) I think my answer will be somewhat narrow-sighted. I can think of an opportunity where gamers’ opinions exercise a more direct influence on the developer and where the developer can start communicating with the actual buyers of the content from the development stage. I believe Gala Games already has its node community, which exercises such impact on the company. I think it can be a double-edged sword; While it can definitely be an advantage in that a game is a consumer product, it may also limit the “freedom” of the developers. So I think we need a lot of diverse experiments and enter into a more mature stage to see a clearer direction to take advantage of these new opportunities.
(Youngsik) I believe the hegemony that used to be in the hands of the provider will shift to the hands of the gamers. Their relationships will also shift from a somewhat one-sided relationship of “supply and consumption” to a relationship of “mutual community”.
Outside the blockchain gaming world, gamers do not have any ownership. They have “a right to use” (concept of rental), whose continuity is not even guaranteed if the game is no longer serviced. Until now, the game industry (developers, publishers) created and provided games (virtual world), and most of the added values generated in the process were taken by the providers. However, in the future, I think the two parties will be partners or collaborators to be together in the virtual world, that is, to create and grow the world together, share the values reasonably, and head in the same direction.
A gamer pool used to be filled with gamers, but now there will be new users or participants, which will further grow and expand the pool, resulting in a new and bigger “User Pool”. Wouldn’t we be able to create the virtual world where we can be and do together with this new pool of users, which go beyond the boundaries of gamers?
Here are some personal interview questions answered by a few members of the ROUND2 team: Youngjun, Youngsik and Seulki.
Youngjun KANG — Director, System Designer
FAVORITE VIDEO GAME — I’m an omnivore when it comes to games. I love Turn-based Strategy the most, followed by 4X., XCom-like, Deck Building, etc. Honestly, I enjoy playing any game.
FAVORITE FOOD — I like quick and easy meals, like Bibimbap for a Korean dish or one-dish meals or bowls.
WORKED ON ANY WELL-KNOWN TITLES? — I don’t think it was “famous” enough, but I am proud to have been the Lead Designer of Brawl Busters.
DO YOU OWN ANY NFTs? — Not much because it is my first involvement in NFT game projects. Gala Snow Globe, which you distributed last year, may be the only NFT I have.
FAVORITE HOBBY — I spend a lot of time playing games (obviously). And I love music. I have been a huge metal and rock fan since I was a teenager. Also, I have practiced kendo, although I haven’t been able to go to the dojo since the pandemic.
Seulki LEE — Art Director
FAVORITE VIDEO GAME — I still play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild from time to time. I play all the games I developed with great fondness.
FAVORITE FOOD — Tteokbokki. I have it at least once a week, and I found this amazing place recently.
WORKED ON ANY WELL-KNOWN TITLES? — I’ve developed a variety of games from a large-scale RPG to a small-scale puzzle game. But the ones that performed quite well would be Water Margin, Attack on Titans, and Defense War (released two years ago).
DO YOU OWN ANY NFTs? — Fortitude NFT will be my first NFT!
FAVORITE HOBBY — I tend to draw pictures unrelated to work, except when I am watching Netflix.
Youngsik CHO, Product Manager
FAVORITE VIDEO GAME — My company’s games (because they are all fun!)
FAVORITE FOOD — Seafood (seriously, anything from water, including spoon worms, raw octopus, skate, and laver)
WORKED ON ANY WELL-KNOWN TITLES? — I don’t know how famous they are, but I’d pick Water Margin for a Korean game and Attack on Titan for a Japanese game.
DO YOU OWN ANY NFTs? — A very few art NFTs (painting) and a very few game NFTs.
FAVORITE HOBBY — Playing games, Traveling with family
Thanks to the development team at ROUND2 for taking the time to share with us, and we look forward to watching Fortitude come to life in the coming months.
It’s time for the most rewarding month in the history of Gala Games… May Mayhem is back!
Considering how we’re always searching for ways to express our gratitude to the amazing Gala Games community, we decided to turn May into a time of celebration… A celebration of rewards for all of you. Now let’s get into the cryptic details that will leave you wanting more.
$4 Million in Prizes
Last year it was $1 million. This year it’s 4. Town Star players alone will have the opportunity to take home a portion of $2 million in GALA rewards. The other $2 million will be distributed to participants of several other games and initiatives throughout the month of May. That’s all you get for now, so you better brush up on your Town Star and get ready for May!
Play Town Star in May for a chance to win!
Free NFTs
Got your attention with that one, didn’t we? We’re not talking about mere collectibles either, we’re talking about a bunch of Gala Games NFTs with Gala gaming utility in (you guessed it) Gala Games.
Tons of these NFTs will be distributed throughout the month of May at various times to Gala Games wallets who held certain specific Gala Games NFTs at the time of an upcoming snapshot.
SNAPSHOT — Friday, April 29th — 11:59pm PT
Free NFTs will be distributed throughout the month based on NFT collections at the time of the snapshot. To be eligible for free NFTs, certain NFTs must be held in either the Treasure Chest or Ethereum Inventory of a Gala Games account wallet.
Let’s say there’s a certain piece of NFT land that entitles owners (at the snapshot) to a special and exclusive new free NFT for May Mayhem, and let’s say you purchased that piece of land 5 minutes after the snapshot. Sorry! You needed it to be there during the snapshot to be eligible.
We’re not going to say for sure which projects and titles will distribute NFTs. Owners will have to wait and see for themselves, and it will be BIG. Now’s your chance to browse the secondary markets if you’ve been on the fence about that weapon, that building or that deed. You have until Friday night for your collection to count toward May Mayhem’s free NFTs.
Look for more information coming soon about May and all its Mayhem!
The only thing you’ll need to get in on the fast-paced arena brawl action of Spider Tanks is an account with Gala Games, so create yours now at Gala.Games if you haven’t yet.
Play For Free
Initially for a share of the rewards, Spider Tanks players will have to compete and win in a Tank they own. Throughout this early release, all players will also have the option to play with a free rotational Tank. The free Tanks cannot be upgraded and they are not actually owned items, but they’re a fantastic way to get to know Spider Tanks before you start purchasing your own stocked garage!
There are even possible plans in the future for these free rotational Tanks that would allow them to have earning potential. This would give free players an extraordinary onboarding experience into the world of play-and-earn.
The Road to Player Earnings
The first player earnings for Spider Tanks will be rolled out over the initial weeks and months of Spider Tanks play. With the April 19th launch, the only earnings (for Tank owners and Map owners) will come in the form of TCTESTCOIN (no value), a preliminary testing coin with no value that cannot be transferred.
Depending on the duration of the testing period and a variety of unexpected challenges that may arise, it could last as little as a week but as long as more than a month. We can tell you roughly how that transition will occur: Gradually.
In the future once sufficient testing has been completed, we will transition from TCTESTCOIN to SILK.
SILK — Official Contract* 0xB37Db40e16a7CaaE38f1e4dbd6B1e44cfFe03072
Beware of scams that impersonate the contract, and always verify the above address from this source.
Temporary Test Upgrades
As Spider Tanks followers have known for months, this is a game of upgrading your equipment and powering up your garage. Here’s how these mechanics will play out during the preliminary TCTESTCOIN portion of the launch.
Players will eventually be able to permanently upgrade their Tank Parts and Tanks using purchased Blueprints from the Spider Tanks store. These Blueprints will be released later, following the launch.
During the early open play testing phase, it is still necessary for us to test these upgrade mechanics, even knowing that Blueprints cannot yet be purchased for SILK. Therefore, upgrade components will sometimes be dropped to players, which they can use to temporarily upgrade their Tanks and Parts.
Once the first SILK has been minted and distributed, all Tanks and Parts will automatically return to their base level and stats. You don’t get to keep your TCTESTCOIN-purchased upgrades forever.
Features of Gameplay
All players can play — The special set of rotational Spider Tanks will allow everyone to get in the game for free. Players can earn when playing with owned Tanks and Tank Parts, but they must find victory to enhance earnings.
Map owners can earn — Those who own Spider Tanks Maps will begin to see rewards from the battles that take place on their battleground(s). The rewards will only be TCTESTCOIN (no value) at first, but will transition to SILK in a matter of weeks.
Map owners will never be entitled to daily earnings for simply owning a Map. They will be required to win at least one match to qualify for the day’s rewards from their Map(s).
Tank owners can earn — Those who own Spider Tanks will be able to battle and earn early rewards for honing their skills in the arena. Their rewards will be only in TCTESTCOIN (no value) at first, but will eventually transition to SILK.
ALL TCTESTCOIN WILL EVENTUALLY AND SUDDENLY DISAPPEAR, but it won’t matter to you because it never had any value whatsoever.
In order to earn rewards, Tank owners must not only battle actively, but win. Only wins will increase a player’s portion of allocated daily rewards.
TCTESTCOIN is a token with no value used exclusively to test blockchain reward distribution and transferability. All initial Spider Tanks rewards will be TCTESTCOIN only.
Roadmap
GAMEDIA will continue to improve Spider Tanks’ gameplay in parallel with this roadmap with the addition of new features, content and balancing.
Earnings Explained
All details of this system are subject to change. All rewards will at first be distributed in a non transferable test token called TCTESTCOIN (no value), transitioning to SILK at a TBA date.
The daily distribution of battle rewards is based on a point system. Points are awarded for all victories. At the end of the day, the daily reward pool will be distributed based on every player’s portion of the day’s victory points.
Allocation of daily rewards will vary based on factors such as Tank ownership (type and rarity, upgrade levels), Map ownership (rarity and type of Map played), and caliber of opponents played. Founder’s Node operators with active Nodes will also receive a daily distribution of SILK — a portion of the total SILK earning rewards for the day, but this is merely a reward for operating their Node and unrelated to gameplay.
Because of the reward pool style distribution, the supply of SILK can be carefully managed as the player base expands and as new SILK in-game utilities are introduced.
There will be a maximum number of times in a day that each player can be victorious and earn maximum rewards. After that number has been reached, the player must earn fewer and fewer rewards or wait until the next day’s battles.
Here’s a more detailed example of how this “diminishing return” reward system will work (numbers are placeholders only and subject to change).
Player wins 10 matches in 3 hours to earn maximum possible rewards. Each victory earned them about 1 SILK in this situation.
Starting with the 11th victory in the same 24 hour period, reward allocation is reduced a little with every win. The 11th victory may earn that same player 0.9 SILK instead of 1.
Even though this player is having a great time and winning over and over, it may be a good idea to take a break and wait until the next day, when their reward capture is back to 100%.
Players must win a battle to gain any points toward increased rewards, and to unlock rewards for that day in the first place.
Finally, Pilots and Captains (borrowing and lending) is not yet ready, but we will keep you posted on its development.
TCTESTCOIN is a token with no value used exclusively to test blockchain reward distribution and transferability. All initial Spider Tanks rewards will be TCTESTCOIN only.

Howdy Town Stars! It’s time for some exciting updates on brand new features coming to the game over the next several months. Let’s dig in!
Gems — Useful Bling for your TOWN
As we have mentioned ever since the initial launch of Town Star Play-to-Earn, more uses for this gaming reward token are coming, and this is a big one.
Gems are a new in-game currency that you’ll soon be able to buy with TOWN.
You’re already able to spend your TOWN on various Town Star items, including some that are exclusively purchasable for TOWN. Additionally, after minting your TOWN rewards from your Treasure Chest to the Ethereum blockchain, you are able to trade for ETH or USDT on several exchanges.
Gems will be a real game changer.
Since we started up Town Star Play to Earn, we’ve been hard at work to find ways to make the system even more fun and rewarding for all Town Stars. Seeing players earn from their in-game assets has been amazing. We want to take that to the next step and offer more fun and versatile ways to play Town Star.
The complete Gem system will gradually be rolled out over the next 6 months or so, but Gems themselves will be available for purchase much sooner than that. You will have the opportunity to purchase this new in-game Town Star currency exclusively for TOWN. It’s important to note that Gems are not a cryptocurrency based on the blockchain, but rather an in-game currency exclusive to Town Star. They will eventually offer a variety of in-game benefits, many of which have never before been available. Here are some examples of the options that may become available.
Special server passes
In-game product purchases (Gasoline, Oak Wood, etc.)
New in-game content and items
New storage buildings
Removal of negative proximity effects (shade, pollution, etc.)
Enhanced speed of crops, workers, or production
Worker prioritization (ability to tell them what to work on first)
Gems themselves will be coming to Town Star very soon. While we cannot say for sure in which order the other features will be added, you can expect many of them to follow in the six months following the release of Gems.
TOWN spent on Gems will be burned, according to the following procedure: When a player purchases Gems, they will do so by sending their TOWN directly to a designated burn wallet.
*All supply and economy details are subject to change
New Reward Distribution System
As our flagship game and first play-to-earn economy, Town Star is very important to us. We’ve discussed some ideas to strengthen the economy of Town Star with the community previously, and in the interest of long-term sustainability we have made an important decision about the method by which future TOWN rewards will be distributed.
All TOWN rewards will transition to a point-based distribution system, as described below.
Instead of a fixed TOWN reward value, each owned NFT will have a point value. Each player’s total points will represent a portion of the daily TOWN reward pool.
Total TOWN reward distribution will decrease over time as a cap for TOWN is approached, causing TOWN to become increasingly scarce as time goes on. Each player’s daily points will be transformed into their share of TOWN rewards for the day, using a ratio that will decrease over time as TOWN becomes more scarce. An example of the distribution model over time is demonstrated in the chart below. (not exact figures, subject to change).
The total daily amount of TOWN in the reward pool will be affected by the number of daily active players. Basically, players will have greater reward potential when they own a larger or rarer collection of Town Star NFTs. All players will experience reduced TOWN distributions for the same number of points as we move forward in this system.
Removal of TOWN-earning NFTs from the Store
As part of this reward restructuring, all TOWN-earning NFTs will be temporarily removed from the Town Star store. Players and collectors will still have the option to purchase these items as available on the peer-to-peer secondary markets such as OpenSea. This won’t have any effect on your ability to use your NFTs within the game.
This removal of for-sale items will take place before the end of April, but TOWN earnings will continue in the current distribution model until we are ready to switch over to the point system distribution model.
Other Things to Look Forward to
Market Board Lending System
This system, announced at last December’s -into the galaverse, will let free players enjoy earned rewards while allowing NFT owners to share passively in these rewards.
While the Market Board system is still an important part of the Town Star roadmap, it has been delayed until a TBA future date to allow for the prioritization of the features previously described in this article.
Gathering New Players
The Town Star team is aggressively pursuing many new methods of attracting new players to Town Star and the Gala Games Ecosystem. You should begin to see the fruits of these efforts very soon with substantial growth in the active Town Star community.
MAYhem
Some of you remember last year’s historic May Mayhem Town Star tournament, with a combined $1 million in prizes. This time, let’s go for $2 million.🤑
We have some incredible May excitement planned for 2022, not only for Town Star, but the wider world of Gala Games. We can hardly wait to share more details, and you won’t want to miss it.
Town Star AMA
Join us April 19th at 7:30am PT for a special Town Star AMA in which we will take your questions about the roadmap and discuss all the excitement on the horizon for Town Star in 2022 as we kick things into the stratosphere.
That concludes this round of massive Town Star updates, and that ought to give you more than enough to chew on for the weekend. Thank you as always for being part of this Ecosystem, and thank you for empowering yourself through Gala Games.
