With the recent news regarding the sunset of “The Walking Dead: Empires“ (Click to read), all TWD:E token holders will receive a series of Mystery Boxes as a gesture of appreciation for their continued support throughout the years of development.
These boxes will contain NFTs from across the Gala Games ecosystem, including assets from VEXI Villages, Mirandus, and TownStar. The NFTs will have similar functionality to the ones in TWD:E.
1. Who’s Eligible
All players who held TWD:E tokens at the snapshot date: 04-29-2025 – 01:40 PM PST.
No action required to qualify, the boxes will be distributed automatically.
You will be able to keep your TWD:E NFTs as collectibles
Note: Holders of VEXI Characters from TWDE and owners of unopened TWD:E Hero Packs will receive their boxes at a later date. Stay tuned for a separate announcement.
2. What You’ll Receive
The box you will receive depends on the type and rarity of the TWD:E tokens you held:
Hero Tokens: Receive one Hero Legacy Box matching your token’s rarity (Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary).

3. How to Open your Box
To exchange your Mystery Box on Gala Games, log in to your account at games.gala.com and head to your Inventory Page. From there, scroll to the Exchangeable NFTs section to view all eligible items.
Select the Mystery Box you’d like to exchange, and follow the on-screen steps to complete the process. For more detailed instructions, check out our support guide here.

After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to sunset “The Walking Dead: Empires,” with the last playable date set for July 31st, 2025.
This decision was not made lightly. “The Walking Dead: Empires” has been in open beta for over a year, following two years of development. From the start, we pursued ambitious goals and explored exciting possibilities for the game. While this marks the end of “The Walking Dead: Empires,” we remain committed to delivering engaging experiences across the Gala ecosystem.
We appreciate your support of the game to date, including the purchasing of exclusive NFTs of characters, crafting stations, and land. While the game’s journey is coming to an end, we remain committed to ensuring that these NFTs continue to have utility. As part of the sunset process, we will be distributing new NFTs of equal functionality in other Gala Games products to TWD:E NFT holders. We are hard at work on a redemption system for this distribution, more details of which will be shared in a following post.

The Commemorative NFT Eggs have been sent out to the thousands of players who unlocked them and players can view them now in their Gala Inventory.
