Celestial Claim Land Sale — Round 3 — Aurora’s Edge

Celestial Claim Land Sale — Round 3 — Aurora’s Edge

Aurora’s Edge is the seat of some of the most powerful nobles and wealthiest families in the whole galaxy, and this time around in the Celestial Claim Land Presale, you’ll have the opportunity to purchase Claims there.

The teams at Ion Games and Gala Games are incredibly excited to bring you this latest and most extravagant round of Celestial Claims yet.

Aurora’s Edge Claims are NOW AVAILABLE while supplies last!

Galaverse Head Start

As an exclusive -into the galaverse perk for live attendees in Las Vegas, the first two tiers were already opened at a substantial discount earlier this afternoon. If you were watching the blogs and paying close attention to the Echoes of Empire store, you may have noticed this quiet early sale even without being fortunate enough to catch the announcement in person.

Now the first two supply tiers have sold out and starting at tier 3 with the base (non-discounted) price, the remaining Claims will be sold according to the previously established rule of increasing price tiers.

New Rarities

With Aurora’s Edge, we’re also proud to announce the first Ancient Celestial Claims. Each Star Cluster will contain only 4 Ancient Claims, making them much, much rarer even than Legendary Claims.

Limited Time

Remember, these Claims are only available for a limited time. Once they’re removed from the shop as Valentina continues to her next location, they will never be seen at these prices again. Every time Valentina revisits a Star Cluster and that Cluster is reopened, the Claim prices will be higher than before.

Good luck, and may you find all the adventure you seek!

The Woes of Distributed Consensus

TLDR: There was no hack in the VOX drop, no contract vulnerabilities, etc. There are some fundamental weaknesses in the way ETH handles randomness which were exploited by someone pointing a massive amount of hashpower to break down some of the random aspects. This is why we are building beyond ETH as fast as we can.

As many members of the Gala Games Discord noted, earlier today there seemed to be a guy who was hitting the contract to redeem VOX and seemed to be getting a bit TOO successful in terms of his random mint pulls.

The question was immediately asked, “HOW?!?!”, immediately followed by “OMG HACK!” and “RUGPULL.” This hyperbole is as baked into crypto as terms like “HODL” and “MOON!” but they deserve a deep explanation of exactly what transpired to see exactly how intensely the VOX collectable series has captured the imagination of people.

Firstly, in order for this to make sense, you need to understand how “randomness” works on Ethereum. The VOX Mint had five elements of randomness (or pseudo-randomness) inserted to keep the mint random.

  • A keccak256 hash of the Chainlink VRF seed
  • The sending wallet address
  • The block height
  • The block time
  • The block difficulty level

First, the VOX were hashed using the Chainlink VRF Seed, then when a transaction hit the contract, the block height, time, and difficulty permuted that initial hashing to pull a specific VOX from the index and deliver it to the user’s address.

So, this is what we believe happened given the information that we have:

  • Someone reverse engineered the Chainlink seed by emulating and debugging the contract locally. Yes, we could have called a new Chainlink seed for each operation of the contract, but this would have dramatically increased the swap cost. Next time, we will likely do this, as well as make a few other changes.
  • They then used a combination of a massive private mining pool / block auction house to make sure that they could choose the exact second and block when their transactions were executed. It had not occurred to us that someone would devote those kinds of resources (since this person was essentially going against all of the rest of the cumulative ETH miners globally to do this) to this. Going even a second in one direction or another would result in a different result.

These transactions were specifically constructed to skip the ETH mem pool altogether, initiating several steps:

  • Purchase of a VOX box from OpenSea
  • Exchange of the VOX box via the smart contract, bypassing the website altogether

Each transaction had BOTH steps of this written into the same block, which they then manually mined using their own private mining pool.

This is FAR beyond the complexity that we anticipated, and, while it is indisputably a crappy experience, really shows how awesome the VOX are in their artistic and utility prospects. It was such an impressive side-step around ETH as a whole, that it shows we will clearly need to beef up the randomness via a variety of methods in the future VOX drops.

The bad news is that once this process has been started, there isn’t anything that can be done. The contract can’t be paused or “reset.” This is the blockchain, and what is done is done, and who would want to buy into an NFT project if you knew the devs could just turn off the mint. It sucks, but it is the way of the world.

The good news is that this actor only seems to have become active towards the very end of the exchange process, and while they minted more than their fair share of certain rarities, the fundamental rarity of the VOX was not in any way compromised. He got one in on us this time, but he isn’t going to do that again.

TL;DR

  • There are many ways to participate in play-to-earn with the upcoming esports brawler, Spider Tanks!
  • Presale is open now (while supplies last) for the first Spider Tanks Maps!

You’ve seen the impressive firepower. You’ve felt the anticipation of battle. You’ve witnessed the world class esports potential of this incredible brawler by GAMEDIA.

Now after an exciting Galaverse announcement, we are proud offer the first player-owned Maps for sale in the Gala Games store. Get yours now while supplies last.

Next, we’ll lay out several of the play-to-earn attributes that will make Spider Tanks so special and empowering. Not only will players have the ability to play and earn for free through the Tank rental systems, but owners will have the ability to earn without playing by delegating battle authority of their tanks to Pilots.

What Can You Be?

Spider Tanks’ unique combination of play-to-earn mechanics will give everyone a chance to play, no matter the perspective from which they approach the game. There will be several ways to get involved, and each will play an integral role in the groundbreaking P2E economy of Spider Tanks.

Be a PILOT

A Pilot is a Spider Tanks player who runs a Tank in battle, whether that Tank belongs to them or someone else.

Every player in the game must compete with an owned Tank, although that Tank does not need to be owned by them. When a new player joins to play for free, they will automatically be assigned to someone else’s owned Tank. They will then become the Pilot of that Tank, sharing their battle rewards with the Tank’s owner.

Be a CAPTAIN

A Captain is a Spider Tanks Tank owner. As the owner of a Tank, you can use your property how you like. You can play with it in battle, or upgrade its parts using resources you have collected. You can make it available for other Pilots in battle, allowing you to share in their earned rewards.

As you upgrade and improve your Tank, you and your Pilots will be able to earn greater rewards in battle, increasing your play-to-earn potential.

Of course, you’ll be able to list your Tank for sale on the secondary market at any time, a standard feature of owning your in-game assets as NFTs.

Be a BARON — CURRENT PRESALE!!

The owner of a Spider Tanks Map is also known as a Baron. Barons will host battles on their maps, earning for the activity that takes place on their land.

Barons can choose to upgrade Maps, making it possible to earn greater rewards through a score called Battle Ranking (BR). The greater the upgraded Map, the higher levels of Tank battles that Map will be able to host. That means that the most upgraded Maps will have the potential to earn the greatest rewards.

The first batch of Maps just released at Galaverse consists of 20% of the current Map inventory. In the future, we will open up more batches of Maps based on the growth of Spider Tank’s DAU to sustain healthy usage and availability of maps.

Be a FABRICATOR

Another way to reap the play-to-earn rewards of Spider Tanks is owning a Factory. Factory owners are also known as Fabricators.

Factories have Luck ratings and Drop ratings that affect the quality of components produced in that Factory. Factories can also be upgraded by the owner to increase stats, and therefore increase play-to-earn potential.

Each Factory must be placed on a Map of the Fabricator’s choice. The Fabricator will always earn a portion of the rewards for matches played on that map. Upgrading the Factory will also mean greater options for the Fabricator through expanded Map choices.

Be an EMPEROR

This is the big one. Those who must have it all and be prominent forces in the Spider Tanks play-to-earn ecosystem will have the extremely rare opportunity to become Emperors, or owners of Planets.

Being the Emperor of a Planet is simple, but incredibly rewarding. Emperors will receive a portion of the rewards of all battles that take place upon their Planet.

It’s nearly time to decide where you fit into this play-to-earn esports masterpiece. Maps are currently available in limited supply, and Planets will soon be made available to the first Emperors!

Koller’s Gate — Part 13 — Valentina and the Echoes of Empire

Koller’s Gate — Part 13 — Valentina and the Echoes of Empire

Felix’s station was somehow even more impressive than his yacht.

Immense stations dominated Koller’s Gate, just a small part of the Aurora’s Edge Star Cluster. This was the territory of the rich, powerful, and somewhat disreputable. Grand floating mansions hovered here and there, drifting with the mood of their owner. Felix had once told Valentina that he could always tell the mood of his neighbors by who moored up beside which Legendary Regional Claim day by day.

Fortunes had been made on the politics of the lesser-respected Houses, and Felix had taken every advantage of that fact. He used the connections of his many friends to move goods and information here and there. After all, many of them had the wealth to go wherever they wanted, with whatever they wanted onboard.

Valentina didn’t worry too much about all that. Today, Felix’s station was on the outer limits of the region. He liked to be away from everyone, mostly because his frequent company was even more disreputable than the usual fare in this cluster.

As she had only a few weeks earlier, Valentina landed in the grand hanger and waved at Felix’s hanger overseer, who looked as familiar as ever, down to the shade of his grease-stained overalls. He waved back, and Valentina went inside toward the lifts.

Felix was waiting for her in his favorite parlor. It overlooked the system’s nearest star, and had a luxurious but comfortable air. It wasn’t where he liked to meet his more important guests, but Valentina wasn’t important, even if she had interesting goods.

“So,” Felix said casually when she sat across from him. The press of a button on his side-table brought up a selection of tiny, gilded snacks, and Valentina bit back a sigh. Of course. Of course he wanted to eat and talk, and probably eat and talk some more after that. “Things have changed since the last time we spoke.”

That… was not what she expected him to say.

“What do you mean?” she asked, and took a few of the tiny, decadent pastries. It wasn’t that she didn’t like them, but she didn’t see a point in covering everything with edible gold. It didn’t taste like anything. “is there a problem?”

Had they turned him? Would Icy and Grumpy walk through the door momentarily to vanish her? She didn’t think she could blast her way out of Felix’s station if he had decided to double-cross her, but he eased her worries by raising a hand to stop her before she could even get to her feet.

“Not exactly,” he hedged, which wasn’t especially encouraging. “I reached out to a few contacts. I figured we might as well play the field, after all. Get a better price for you and a better finder’s fee for me. The problem is that there’s rather more interest than I expected.”

“That’s… good?” Valentina wasn’t sure what to make of it, but Felix probably knew what he was doing. “More people means better bidding, right?”

“It’s the people involved, and that’s why I’m talking to you now,” Felix said reluctantly. “And I can’t believe I’m saying this, but here it is. You have the rapt attention of all three Factions. Leaders, not some trumped up minions, and they’re all interested and for different reasons, none of which I have been allowed to know.”

Oh.

Oh blast.

Now she understood why he brought it up. She’d been dealing with one underling or another from different houses and factions for years, here and there. They didn’t have much power, even if they gave her trouble now and then. But to have Lords and Ladies interested? Members of the Galactic peerage interested? That was a real good way to die very badly.

“What do I do?” Valentina asked, reeling at the very thought of so many powerful people knowing her name. “Do I sell? Who do I sell to? Should I run again? And where in the galaxy do you run from them?”

Valentina took a deep breath and let out a long sigh. “Ok, where do I find these nobles?” Valentina said, steeling herself against what was to come. “That’s the easy part my dear Valentina. Nobles from many of the fine houses as well as The Royals, The Arbeiters and The Garrison are meeting at GALActic Station right here in Koller’s Gate, I imagine to bury the hatchet. Truly an auspicious coincidence, is it not?” Felix said with a smirk.

“Now it’s all up to you,” Felix said seriously. “So, Valentina Barbaro. It’s time to make a choice. What will you do with this treasure of yours?”
