May was a little Mayhem, but thanks to the destructive power of our Pilots, we made it!
For the past two years at the height of galactic spring, a strange energy spreads through the solar system from an extra dimensional distortion near the edge of the Khyber belt. While most citizens have come to refer to this energy as simple, “Mayhem”, scientists are learning more about the behavior of this unknown radiation each appearance.
As previously suggested, it seems this “Mayhem” causes stimulated blood flow to the amygdala in humans… This can often result in more aggressive behavior. Luckily, the wise leadership of The Planetary Union learned from previous Mayhem Waves and encouraged all citizens to pour their excessive appetite for destruction into the arena this year. Today, we’d like to announce that this has been an unmitigated success.
Pilots, We Salute You!
Your brave efforts during this Mayhem provided the kind of metal on metal, unbridled destruction that productive citizens across the planets needed to get through this difficult time. Thousands of Pilots placed on the May Mayhem leaderboards, and we congratulate each and every one of you!
A huge amount of Bolts and Arachnium were awarded to those brave enough to take on the Mayhem:
17,149,500 Bolts
171,495 Arachnium

Additionally, 294 Pilots racked up enough wins each week to earn the sweetest May Mayhem reward ever. These brave few who managed 70+ wins each week during May Mayhem were sent the exclusive Skin — Stroopwafel!
As of last week, all rewards have now been delivered for May Mayhem in Spider Tanks. In total, 3103 Pilots received at least some reward during this event!
Thank you to everyone for participating in this special event. We hope the winning spirit of Mayhem stays in your hearts and launchers all year long!
Patch 1.3.1 is here, and the start of Season 1 evens out the playing field.
The Planetary Union has officially announced the last pockets of Mayhem have dissipated from the solar system according to their readings. We hope all Pilots enjoyed this year’s frenzy, and that everyone returns to their senses safely, more than satisfied with their triumphs throughout the month.
With Mayhem behind us, it’s time to look to the future of Spider Tanks. Huge technological advancements in the tools of destruction that Pilots employ in the arena have changed the battle forever. The arena doesn’t sit still though. The arena evolves.
Edit 6/7/23: Patch 1.3.1 has been deployed addressing several bugs:
An issue with players stuck in “Joining Game” has been fixed.
An issue that caused a loop when accessing Saved Builds in the Garage has been fixed.
An issue with player’s rank in the leaderboards has been fixed.
Patch 1.3.0
This patch marks a major turning point in Spider Tanks, as new features, fixes and improvements will make the arena more fun and accessible to all.
New Content
The game now features a tutorial to familiarize players with the game before they get thrown onto a team. Think you’re ready for the arena? New rookie missions will test your skill. Complete them all to unlock a special Graduation Cap Prop in your Garage.
Casual Matchmaking
Casual matchmaking has been added to the game. In this mode, there is no VP awarded for wins or Elo gained or lost. Missions, however, can be completed within Casual Matchmaking.
Players who join Casual Matchmaking will immediately join a match in progress. If there is not one in progress already, a new game will be made with bots filling spaces until players join. When one game ends, the next will begin immediately and there is no penalty for leaving a match in progress.
Matchmaking Improvements
In Ranked Matchmaking, low BR players who end up matched against higher BR players will now receive a temporary BR buff to make the matchup more fair. This adjustment will never reduce a Tank’s BR, but will buff lower rating tanks up to 10 BR or 20 BR if necessary to get them a little closer to the power of their opponent.
This buff will just be for the duration of any match it is applied and will not affect any VP awarded upon winning.
Improvements
The mission interface has been streamlined in a few ways. Your inventory will now appear within the mission menu, and mission rewards are now named. You can also see your missions on the main ‘Play’ menu as well now. Completing a mission now gives you the bonus reward of a sweet animation!
The scoreboard in game will now show which players are in a party, as well as what type of match you are in. When players leave the game before the end now, they will still appear on the results screen.
Ever lose track of what’s going on with The Payload during Poultry Pusher? Now each Payload will have a HUD icon that displays its status.
We know the pain that comes from accidentally rerolling a Perfect upgrade. That pain will never be felt again, as it is now impossible to reroll a Perfect.
For the busiest Pilots out there with lots of contracts, you can now filter your contracts by Captain name.
Notable Bug Fixes
Numerous issues with Piloting and Drop Pods have been fixed.
Fixed players being kicked for low FPS or high ping after the match has ended.
Fixed the issue where players were able to change Abilities mid-match.
Fixed bug where multiple people could pick up one egg.
Introducing: Spider Tanks Season 1
With everything that has changed in the arena over the past seven months since Spider Tanks launched, it’s time for a fresh start. New Weapons and Bodies are pushing the meta to new places. New ace Pilots are inventing new strategies and innovating refined combos. Out with the old, in with the new.
The upcoming 1.3.1 patch marks the end of Spider Tanks Season 0. Elo will be reset at some point the day after the patch has been deployed, and everyone will have to fight to climb again. Rank will be hidden for all players until this reset occurs. These are intense times in the arena. Do you have what it takes to rise with the best early on?
Season 0 has one last parting gift before it goes… to remember all that winning. All players have been rewarded with a new in-game profile icon based on the highest rank they ever achieved during Season 0.
The Battle Rages On
The battle keeps going in the arena. We don’t know how long Season 1 will last (or we’re not saying), but you can bet that it won’t be forever. Climb that ladder, get those wins, dominate the competition!
We hope everyone enjoys this new patch. Keep your eyes peeled for some news coming in next week about a much-anticipated sale on a special, super-threatening Weapon that most of you very much know and love.
The Knight cuts clean through enemy Tanks, proving swordplay never goes out of style.
Transfabricators throughout The Planetary Union have been working overtime as arenas get more crowded than ever. A constant stream of destruction throughout the system means new Tank Parts are constantly needed, and the latest innovation from production lines is sure to create more than a few scrap piles once it joins the fray!
Soon, arenas throughout The Union will finally welcome The Knight. This combination of four all-new, interchangeable Tank Parts was inspired by ancient historical accounts recently uncovered amidst the ruins of old Earth. Adorned in ceremonial garb from Earthican mythology, The Knight wields the mighty Carver, a devastating piece of melee weaponry. The technology that forged this sword was reverse engineered from an ancient historical account of a galaxy far, far away, recently discovered in unearthed archives on Earth itself!
The Knight is comprised of the Carver Weapon, the Mantis Body, the Archmage Skin and the Roman Plume Prop. Check out more information about each of these Tank Parts further down in this article!
May Mayhem is still going full force in the arena. What better way to celebrate than with all new ways to battle?
The Knight: Sale Details
Just like our last sale, we’ll be releasing The Knight in two separate waves, each with half the supply available.
On Tuesday, May 23rd, half the available supply for this sale will be available at 12pm PT. The remaining half will then be added to the Spider Tanks Store at 8pm PT that same day. For any part that isn’t sold out, the additional supply will simply be added on top of any remaining Tank Parts.
As with the rest of our inaugural Generation 2 sales, these Parts will enter the store with a discount applied. These sales won’t last forever, however, and the discount may be removed or altered with little or no notice.
The Carver
You wouldn’t typically think a sword has much of a chance against the heavy firepower in the arena, but you’d be wrong. Using the concepts in the extragalactic histories along with modern DAS technology, the Carver is able to utilize a deadly and eternally sharp laser sword. Due to the weightlessness of lasers over clunky materials like metal, this saber — literally made of light — can swing fast and reach far.
This Weapon will only deal with enemies at close range, but it will attack everything with a wide, sweeping 180° arc in the direction it’s pointed. While The Carver may not offer any way to deal with Tanks at a distance, close the gap between you and an enemy and watch them panic in the face of certain slicing.
Due to the large area of effect of its attack compared to other melee ranged Weapons, The Carver is an excellent option to chop down more than one enemy at a time. This makes it ideal for hit and run tactics on grouped enemies, such as in Poultry Pusher or King of the Hill.
The Mantis
Mantis scurries throughout the arena with haste on bladed feet that tap out the perfect accompaniment to Carver’s deadly song.
Mantis is a medium Body, but has definitely given up some of its bulkier Armor in exchange for some extra zoom power. It can’t keep up easily with the little guys like Flea and Blink, but it’s a solid option for someone who wants Speed while still being able to take a few hits and generate more Energy than the littlest Tank Bodies.
Since Mantis is quicker than most Tanks, it can provide you huge advantages in positioning or approaching entrenched enemies. Unlike the smallest Bodies though, Mantis doesn’t have to dodge everything perfectly to prevent its own explosion. This gives you a lot more options about how aggressively you can play and how much you push back when your positioning is threatened.
Archmage
The Archmage Skin represents power and resilience, making it the perfect complement to The Knight.
Added Speed and Energy let you terrorize the enemy even more, while some extra resistances help shield you from any shots your enemies get off on you before their inevitable end.
Roman Plume
Drawn from a likely mythological civilization of old Earth, the Roman Plume was a highly poignant symbol to ancient Earthicans.
Anthropologists hypothesize that these accessories were used as primitive sexual displays to attract a mate over long distances on ancient Earth’s hilly terrain. Today in the arena, they definitely increase the ‘physical appeal’ of your Tank… with some extra Armor, Physical Resistance and Physical Damage.
Mayhem Terminating
This sale hits the Spider Tanks Store on Tuesday, May 23rd. Will you be ready?
Torrential Mayhem pockets continue to be reported throughout The Planetary Union. The Mayhem is projected to dissipate after this week, so make sure you get those wins in before it’s too late!
Patch 1.1.1 is finally live, and look out! The Shaman has arrived.
Patch 1.1.1 is now live in Spider Tanks, with tons of balance adjustments, bug fixes and new features. Just in time too, as the next generation of Tanks are starting to scuttle into battles!
Based on the results of the recent community vote, The Shaman build will be the first Generation 2 Tank introduced into garages across the Planetary Union. While all the Parts included overall represent The Shaman build, all parts will be available as individual pieces so Pilots can mix and match to vary or even improve the design of The Shaman.
Introducing: Generation 2 Tanks
The classic era of Tank construction couldn’t last forever, and many Pilots are now choosing to entrust their fate in the arena to Generation 2 Tank Parts!
These Generation 2 Tank Parts rolling off assembly lines utilize new transfabrication technology in their manufacturing process. This allows them to be produced for far lower cost, but they have some notable differences from their Generation 1 predecessors.
Generation 2 Tank Parts aren’t produced at higher starting level based on rarity. Instead, they all begin at level 0 and will need to be augmented with components in garages across the planets to reach their maximum potential. Overall, Generation 2 Tanks will require slightly more components to fully upgrade than previous models.
Generation 2 Tanks are up to arena standards– evenly matched with their Generation 1 counterparts of similar level and quality of upgrades in every way.
The maximum potential VP from each Generation 2 Part will be roughly the same as any Generation 1 Part. As there are no prefabricated levels on Gen 2 Parts, Generation 2 Tanks may have slightly different potential VP per win on the grind from 0 to 30. Fully upgraded Parts should be nearly identical in VP potential to their Generation 1 peers, however.
Due to Overwhelming Community Vote: The Shaman!
The Shaman is a build concept consisting of four Tank Parts. All of its pieces bring totally new strategies to the arena, so it’s no surprise that the community was incredibly decisive about voting The Shaman into the honor of being the 1st new Tank shipped out to arenas across the Union.
While not always tied together in a package like Hero Tanks, the four pieces of The Shaman synergizing so well together means that right out of the gate there is a viable option using only Parts from the second generation.
To celebrate the beginning of Generation 2, each new Tank Part in the store will be discounted initially. It should be noted that no Generation 2 Common Tank Parts will be sold in the Spider Tanks Store at the moment, but we’ll have more information in the future about how Common Tanks fit into Generation 2.
All Tank Parts in this sale are purchasable in GALA, ETH or SILK, and will be delivered on Project GYRI.
The Railgun
The Railgun is a Weapon of unimaginable destructive power. It fires one single elemental damage projectile that can be charged up to magnify its impact. No fancy firing pattern or explosion. Just one absolutely deadly blast.
While charging The Railgun, your Tank is slowed down to a crawl. You’ll regain your Speed as soon as you fire, but this means while you are at your most deadly you’re also a mostly immobile heavy gunner.
The Crab
The Crab is a nearly ideal complement to The Railgun. This Medium Body has extra Armor and a balanced Speed and Energy. This allows you to take a few shots while your movement is limited if you need to.
Scuttling around the arena on six mechanical legs, Crab has the Speed and Energy to hang with most Tanks, but also gives you that extra carapace when you need it.
The Captain’s Hat
Crabs hang near the ocean, especially when they are the captain. Beachside or in the heat of explosions and bullet storms, the Captain’s Hat always keeps you feeling cool and in charge.
It offers small buffs to a wide variety of stats, so that you’ll always be ready for whatever rough waters you find yourself in.
Craggy
Craggy is the coolest thing since the stone age. Why look fancy and flashy when you can roll into the arena as OG awesome as you can possibly be!
This Skin isn’t just the latest in rock inspired fashions though. It provides extra buffs to keep you tough all around, while also boosting your elemental damage. What could possibly be called master of the elements more than a rock?
Coming Soon to the Arena
The Shaman won’t be the only Generation 2 Tank rushing into the arena for very long. The Cleric and The Warrior from the community vote will both be crashing into battles soon, and there’s a lot more after that.
We hope you enjoy battles with The Shaman in the arena. There will be tons more coming in the future as we dive into Generation 2!
For now though, get out there and get your claws dirty… Hop into the arena today! Check out all the goodies introduced in patch 1.1.1… and make sure you dodge that Railgun!
The Cleric wades into the battle, entirely unafraid of its foes. This all new combo lets you triage destruction better than ever.
The latest Generation 2 Tank Parts are fresh off the transfabrication lines and ready to crawl into the arena! As opposed to previous Generation 2 releases, such as The Warrior and The Shaman, this new combo does more than just focus on destroying the competition.
Today we’re happy to introduce the future of combat medic technologies to the arena. Please welcome… The Cleric! This streamlined combo consists of four separate Tank Parts, all of which are sold separately. The Plate Body, the Repair Gun Weapon, Prismatic Skin and Emergency Light Prop!
May Mayhem is still going full force in the arena, and what better way to celebrate than with all new ways to battle?
The Cleric: Sale Details
Just like our last sale, we’ll be releasing the Cleric in two separate waves, each with half the supply available in this sale.
On Wednesday, May 10th, half the available supply for this sale will be available at 12pm PT. The other half will then be added to the Spider Tanks Store at 8pm PT that same day. For any part that isn’t sold out, the new supply will simply be added on top of any remaining Tank Parts.
As with the rest of our inaugural Generation 2 sales, these Tank Parts will enter the store with a discount applied. These sales won’t last forever, however, and may be removed with little or no notice. Get ’em while you can!
The Repair Gun
The Repair Gun may seem more like a tool than a weapon at first, but it can be strategically essential for any team.
Whereas other repair methods fix a Tank slowly over time, the Repair Gun inserts a massive burst of repairing all at once on contact. Add in its incredible clip size and fire rate, and you can act as near constant life support for your allies.
Like its cousin the Repair Artillery, the Repair Gun also does a little bit of damage to enemies that are hit. While it is a very small amount of damage, you can fire fast enough that they’ll feel like you’re tossing every hypodermic in your medical kit at them!
The Plate
Plate is tough. Seriously tough. Plate is the toughest thing to hit the arena since Titan, and it barely misses that mark.
You won’t be moving super fast in Plate, but you won’t be exploding easily either. It’s the perfect mobile support station– staying in one piece during combat is usually the best strategy.
Prismatic
Prismatic is blindingly brilliant — a force of purity and protection within the arena. Stay alive longer, and keep others alive while you’re at it.
Emergency Light
The Emergency Light signals your teammates that support is coming.
Who knows? Maybe it will also get some more law-abiding opponents to go ahead and pull over while you destroy them.
The Brawl Begins
More new Tank Parts will be rolling off of assembly lines eventually, but The Cleric’s time is now!
The Mayhem continues throughout The Planetary Union. We wish you the best fortune in your battles as you get out there and rack up those wins!
