Spider Tanks Showcase: Santa’s Slay

It’s time for Santa’s annual vacation, and we hear he’s spending his time spreading cheer and devastation in the arena.

Hello arena family, and welcome back to another Spider Tanks Showcase. Today, we’re wrapping up the holiday season with a special Hero Tank that was far too busy with other duties last week to make an appearance. What better way to kick off the off time of year for this chillingly powerful Tank then with some jolly destruction in the arena?

That’s right, today we’re spending some time with Santa’s Slay. This Tank’s fabrication template was based on Santa Claws– the savage ruler and administer of justice during a series of large and seemingly unrelated festivals surrounding the hibernal solstice of ancient Earth.

Santa lurked in chimneys throughout the world every year, watching everyone– intent on rewarding or punishing each human based on their actions throughout the year in his own twisted brand of holiday justice.

In this tradition, Santa’s Slay also terrorizes its naughty enemies while simultaneously treating its nice allies to some year round holiday perks. It can be easy to underestimate a Tank adorned with snowflakes that has unnervingly wide-eyed elves hanging off of it… but you shouldn’t do that. Santa was once one of the most powerful entities on planet Earth, and his Slay can easily prove to be one of the most powerful in the arena any day of the year.

Santa’s Slay careens around the battlefield in a way that may often seem chaotic to the untrained eye, but master Pilots will know that its swooping, rolling patterns aren’t as much of a weakness as they seem. Its limited movement options somewhat define its playstyle, but not as much as the awesome power of the Snowballer Weapon that comes atop this premade Hero Tank combo.

North Pole Permafrost: Santa’s Slay/Snowballer

Like the Nomad or Snoop’s Bumpin’ Lowrider, the Slay Body isn’t omnidirectional– it will have to move forward or backwards, turning to accommodate each movement. It builds up serious momentum and will continue forward for a moment even when you turn another direction. This means that the best Pilots will operate Santa’s slay without often stopping their forward movement . Loops and donuts are familiar patterns for a Slay, since that means that they can fire off in any direction at surprising speeds.

Why surprising speed? Now we’re getting into The Snowballer. This Weapon will shoot up to two snowball projectiles at a time. They have very decent range and will cross most gaps in the map, such as crevasses or water hazards. They have a relatively limited rate of fire but deal tremendous damage. Perhaps even more importantly than their ability to demolish Tanks, however, is the ice trails that these projectiles leave behind.

In this clip, the Santa’s Slay sees a teammate in trouble. Using ice paths, it is able to limit the movement of the opponent and increase the speed of the ally so that the injured Hurricane can escape. Then, it’s able to use its Repair Zone and direct firepower to defend its damaged teammate while it gets itself composed.

The Snowballer will slow any opponent it hits slightly for a short time, but it will also leave ice tracks on the ground tracing the projectile’s path. These will linger for a bit, and any enemy caught on them will be slowed. In addition, any ally on top of them will skate forward with boosted Speed. This means that a Santa’s Slay with good map awareness can effectively control both the allied and enemy movement throughout the match if they are clever about it.

Everybody Chill

This ice trail of Snowballer also boosts your speed, so suddenly one of the slower Tanks in any garage can just cruise across their own ice tracks and push their ride up to some pretty respectable sprint speeds. Combine that with the fact that anyone who may be following you will be slowed on your trail, and suddenly the Slay’s Speed doesn’t seem too lacking.

It can not be overstated how important movement is in virtually any match in the arena. Consistent victory comes from teams that limit the movement of other teams, forcing them to fight on unfavorable terms. Often this just comes from positioning, but Santa’s Slay takes a much more direct approach.

This is why you’ll regularly see Santa’s Slays in matches where their kills and score may not be massive, but they were absolutely essential to victory. Their ability to both buff allies and debuff enemies at the same time is extremely powerful, and regularly makes them useful in a critical support role in teams, even as they are cranking out insane damage.

This Santa’s Slay has an opponent hot on its trail, but thanks to a Speed boost from the ice trails that also slowed the opponent, it’s able to stay just out of reach enough to turn in its chicken.

Due to its movement limitations, a Slay may not be able to dance close range with a more agile Tank and always hold its own. A good Slay Pilot, however, will stay in motion continuously so the opponent can never guess which way they’ll break off. Ice trails let you break these close encounters when you choose… and if the enemy decides to follow you, they’ll be facing your frigid assault on shaky ground.

Sack Full of Toys

Like other Hero Tank combos, Santa’s Slay comes with both the Snowballer Weapon and the Santa’s Slay body. We’ve already discussed a lot of the ways that these two complement each other, but they can each also shine when used apart.

The Slay itself is very similar to the Nomad. Its stats provide the exact same support, though some Pilots will prefer the way one handles over the other. This means that you can use the Santa’s Slay Body with any of the combos that you’d typically use Nomad with. Check out our breakdown on that Body for some great ideas!

The Snowballer offers something a little more unique to your Tank builds. This Weapon is totally different than other since it can buff your team while also debuffing and damaging your enemies, so there are tons of fun ways to play it.

You could put it on a heavier Tank to absolutely dominate positioning in game modes like King of the Hill or Chicken Chaser. Even playing this in a Titan, your ice sheets will help you maneuver to offset some of your lacking Speed, but you’ll be even more capable of directing traffic throughout the Map.

Another option that may get a little crazy sometimes but can be very effective is to slap your Snowballer on a super fast little Tank. You essentially have an extra boost of speed in your pocket whenever you want it, and percentage speed boosts from things like ice paths and Speed Boosters speed up a faster Tank far more than they do a more bulky Body. You’re going to be really, really fast… make sure you can handle it.

You can use a Snowballer with a lighter body and Speed Boost to maintain some pretty insane breakneck speeds.

We Wish You Merry Battles

Like other non-omnidirectional movement Tanks, some Pilots may have trouble adjusting their playstyle to Santa’s Slay at first. Once you put in some practice with this Hero Tank though, it brings a lot to the battlefield. Don’t let all the jolly accents on that sleigh fool you– Santa’s here to slay!

Unfortunately no Saanta’s Slay are currently available in the Spider Tanks Store, but they can still be found on the official Spider Tanks OpenSea collection!

Like always, the best Tank combo for you is the one you enjoy the most. There are a huge variety of Tank Parts available in Spider Tanks. Knowing more about each Tank Part not only helps you find the perfect build for you, but also to know what you’ll be facing out there in the arena.

Next week, we’ll be featuring the biggest Tank out there– it’s Titan’s turn on the Spider Tanks Showcase. If you have any ways you love to play a Titan, let us know in the comments below or on Discord. You could also tweet an epic Titan clip at us with the hashtag #STShowcase, and your clip may be featured in next week’s edition!

Spider Tanks Showcase: Titan

Spider Tanks Showcase: Titan

Make way for the heavies! This week, it’s Titan’s turn in the spotlight.

Welcome back for yet another Spider Tanks Showcase! Today we have a Tank that’s sort of a big deal… In fact, it’s the biggest deal currently available in Spider Tanks. Standing on four enormous legs, this Body towers over many other Tanks in the arena.

That’s right, today we’re featuring Titan. This Tank isn’t going anywhere fast, but very little will actually stop it from eventually getting wherever it is going.

The Titan Body is a huge amount of Bulk. Currently, it’s the highest Armor Body available, though its Speed certainly leaves something to be desired. You won’t move fast in a Titan, but you can take a lot of punishment. A very high Energy stat also ensures that you’ll be able to use plenty of Abilities, which can either round off your weaknesses or amplify your strengths.

The Bully: Titan/Shotgun

The first potential Titan build we’re going to look at isn’t one that will be easy to master, but it can definitely excel in certain matchups. Slap a Shotgun on the top of that Titan to ruin the day of anyone who tries to get close to you. With this combo, you’ll be able to push around the opposition and dictate positioning throughout the battle.

For this specific combo, we like to use a Relay Drone so we can surprise unsuspecting weak stragglers. This helps make up for your lack of maneuverability and can be combined with something to make you even tougher (Repair Zone or Shield Drone maybe?) or with an Ability to make your deadliness a little more versatile (try Vortex Zone or Grenade!). With the high Energy of Titan and its uncanny ability to stay in one piece, you’ll get the chance to use plenty of Abilities, even high cost ones.

This Titan is guarding the Control Point, but it isn’t going to let this enemy Tank draw its teammate into a fair fight! It quickly pops over to take out the opposing Tank, then puts pressure on the enemy so they can’t get to the Control Point in time.

A Shotgun is deadliest at close range, but it can also be really effective at mid-range for dissuading enemy Tanks from wandering too close or catching inattentive faster Tanks on their way by. Unlike a Flamethrower, your Shotgun doesn’t slow you down. Many Flamethrowers use the same Relay Drone tactics, but you won’t be weighed down as you back away while blasting at them.

While this build is great for holding down a Control Point, or jumping into an enemy Healing Zone to scatter the enemy, there’s a strength of the slow Shotgunner that often goes underutilized. Enemy Tanks may have the urge to try and chase you because you’re so slow… this is exactly what you want!

Fire behind you at a pursuer as you go. As they approach you, they’re not only extending the effective range of your Shotgun by running towards it, but are also walking into the more concentrated parts of its firing pattern. Usually, you can take care of enemy Tanks this way before they ever realize that they got over ambitious.

The Heavy Archer: Titan/Crossbow

For those that like to have a little more range than the Shotgun offers, this build is worth a try. Replace that low range shooter with a glorious Crossbow and prepare to rain devastation across the map.

Crossbows can cover extremely long range when charged up, but can also provide a surprisingly fast cadence of damage up close in a pinch. In a Titan, your pure bulk will let you take a lot of punishment and give you the time to line up perfect shots. If your opponents want to try to flank the sniper, they’re facing a pretty deadly game to take your quick shots.

This Titan is minding its own business shooting the lava Tank on the north side of the map. The JACKED O’ Lantern thinks it can help its buddy, but the crossbow adapts quickly.

Whereas a lot of long range support Tanks need to position themselves in the rear, you can really put pressure on your opponents by coming up to the front of contested areas on occasion. Every moment that an opponent is attacking you, they’re not attacking your team. If you can hit a moving target pretty well, then they won’t be easily able to take their eyes off of you.

The Terror: Titan/T-Ray

This next build may be a little unconventional to say the least, but hear us out! The T-Ray is the Weapon that comes with the T-Rex Hero Tank. Its elemental damage burns through any obstruction to deal increasing damage the longer an enemy stays in its path.

At first, this Weapon may be tough for many Pilots to adapt to — it doesn’t deal a big burst of damage at first hit, and it slows down your Tank to a crawl while firing. Since the Titan already crawls, we can cross off one of those disadvantages right away!

T-Ray requires slow and steady gameplay, which is something the Titan already excels at. For most Tanks, 2–3 seconds in your ray will totally wreck them. With the bulk of a Titan, you have the staying power to hang in that long without needing to sprint away.

This Titan catches the enemy Hurricane running away from it in a wide arc. This is the perfect angle to roast it. By the time it’s destroyed, the enemy Titan has nowhere to run from T-Ray’s death beam!

The key to using the T-Ray with a Titan is to serve as rear support when you can. Your beam goes an incredibly long distance and goes through pretty much anything. Let your team run them around. All you have to do is highlight them and keep them in the beam to delete.

Clash of the Titan

A Titan may not be the fastest ride in the arena, but it’s the best at what it does. Just as with any Tank Body, there are tons of ways to dominate the Arena in a Titan. Remember, the best way to play is always the way that you enjoy most!

Some rarities of Titan are currently still available for purchase in the Gala Games Store!

That’s all for us this week, but we’ll of course return next week featuring the terror of land and sea alike… The WhaleShark Tank!

Got strategies for the Whaleshark that the people must know? Tell us about them in Discord or in the comments below. You could also always tweet a clip to @Spider_Tanks with the hashtag #STShowcase to get featured in next week’s showcase!

T-Rex and New Skin Sale

T-Rex and New Skin Sale

Raaawr! This holiday, eat the competition with a T-Rex!

You’ve seen it stalking the arena from time to time, and the day to get your hands on the dreaded T-Rex has finally arrived! Like other Hero Tanks, this combo comes as a package deal with both a Weapon and Body that can be used separately, but synergize into a powerful build together!

In addition to this fearsome beast, two new Skins have also hit the store today! Freezo and Avalanche have arrived!

Since these Tanks and Skins are already chomping at the bit to get into the arena, we want to get Pilots a chance to saddle up and ride the T-Rex without waiting on Generation 2. This Hero Tank will be among the final Generation 1 Tank Parts available from the Gala Games Store. While an end to this sale isn’t being announced at this time, these Tanks will be extinct in their current form in the Gala Games Store along with the rest of Generation 1 in the near future.

T-Rex: A Tyrant From Our Ancient Past

Historical context for stories of the great T-Rex are scattered at best. Thanks in large part, however, to the surviving pieces of the ancient documentary, Jurassic Park, historians have pieced together the most basic facts on this legendary terror of old Earth.

This great beast was a globally feared predator long before the rise of the dreaded chicken. In the most ancient Earth history, stories are told of this great beast riding into ancient Earth’s atmosphere on the back of an extinction level meteor that narrowly missed the planet. Rex jumped off and made the Earth its home, where some historians say it made a friend named Chuck Norris, who rode the beast for many years. Together they explored the Earth and learned much of its culture and customs.

The great beast mostly favored birds for its meals, and thus its official name T-Rex was often colloquially referred to as Tyrannosaurus… archaic word play on “tyrant of those that soar”.

Today, he’s been reconstructed– more terrifying than ever– for your destructive pleasures in the arena. Literal tons of molten metal have recreated this beast down to the last detail– even its trademark burning laser breath that so haunted the dreams of ancient avians.

The beast in all its glory, unextincted by the power of science!

T-Rex is composed of the Rex Body and the T-Ray Weapon. While the gargantuan beast is terrifying to behold, its bipedal anatomy makes it surprisingly lithe. The Rex Body moves nearly as fast as the Chicken that would one day take its place as the top of the food chain. It doesn’t have a lot of Armor… but if it uses its T-Ray right, it won’t need it.

The T-Ray breathes a sustained blast of powerful sci-fi stuff in the direction of your enemy. It takes a bit to wind up, but once you’re firing you can keep the ray going for quite awhile. The T-Ray penetrates nearly any barrier to torch enemy Tanks behind protection with high intensity radiation.

Avalanche Skin

Avalanche T-Rex INSISTS that everybody chill.

Avalanche is a Rare Skin with a chill style and enough protection to weather even the coldest winter. It’ll boost your Health and Elemental Resistance, while also upping your Speed and Elemental Damage

Freezo Skin

Ice cold killer right here.

Freezo is an Epic Skin a lot like Avalanche, but with the temperature turned down to absolute zero. Freezo sacrifices Avalanche’s Health boost to double the Speed boost– that will definitely help keep your blood warm in the cold! Freezo also adds in both Physical Resistance and Physical Damage boosts to make your Tank an all around threat in the arena.

Node Operators: Jet Ready for Happy Holidays!

Node Operators: Jet Ready for Happy Holidays!

Get ready for an exclusive Tank giveaway for Planetary Node Operators with a chance for Founder’s Nodes to get in on the action!

2022 has been an eventful year for Spider Tanks, but we’re just getting started. Next year will bring even greater battles, new content and generally more destruction to the arena. Are you ready for what’s coming in 2023?

Before we hit those Speed Boosters and rocket towards the future, we need to take some time to appreciate some heroes without whose support Spider Tanks wouldn’t be the same. We want to say happy holidays to our Node operators, and send them a small gift of our appreciation.

Say hello to my Triple Threat!

Christmas in the Arena

We sure hope we found a gift that matches your garage.

In old Earth culture, the middle of their primitive winter season was marked by a series of festivals that united the world in a frenzied rush to consume as many calories as possible to hibernate through the colder months. The most famous of these in the historical ballads is referred to as Christmas (alt: Krismas, Xmas, Kriss-miss).

We know little about the holiday other than what is recorded in the annals of oral history and surviving historical footage from the period. Most historical sources agree that it was the single greatest celebration of the year, during what was otherwise a barbaric and traumatizing time.

While there were many variations, the most famous iconography of the festival revolves around the figure of the dreaded Santa Claws, and his inexplicable tradition of categorizing everyone in the world into “naughty” or “nice” once per year. Santa was a cruel tyrant who relentlessly watched all of humanity while they were sleeping or awake… all in the name of providing more and more luxurious gifts to his beloved mistress, Eartha Kitt. Those the fiend considered nice would receive gifts, while we’re told from history that unspeakable horrors were unleashed on those on the naughty list.

Originally born as lowly human toy salesman “Tim Allen”, however, the holidays were not always about destruction and terror for Santa Claws. Historians believe that before a life-changing incident where he inadvertently struck and killed an elderly woman with his sleigh, he was a benevolent and even jolly presence in Earth culture.

It is in the spirit of that happier tradition of Christmas long past that we will be forgoing punishments for the naughty this year. We will, however, still send presents to everyone on the nice list!

We couldn’t find bows big enough for Jet and Triple Threat.

The nicest people we know are our Node operators who help make everything we do possible, so we hope you all enjoy your gift!

Jet and Triple Threat

All Planetary Node operators who ran at least minimum workloads in the past week should have already received a Common Jet and Triple Threat! Founder’s Node operators will also have the opportunity to receive one, starting today.

Jet is a hovering Body that plays a lot like its cousin Hurricane, but with a fresh new style.

Triple Threat shoots small bursts each time it’s fired and holds three shots in a clip. Twin Gun Pilots will find its firing pattern somewhat familiar, but since it holds more shots (similar to Cannon), it can lay down much more sustained firepower and more projectiles over a short time span.

These will be Common Tank Parts and will be part of Generation 1. This means that their upgrade costs and VP potential per day will be in line with other already released Common Parts.

-For Planetary Node Operator License Owners-

You don’t have to do anything to get your hands on this Tank! If you’ve run at least one Planetary Node for at least six hours in any one day between December 8th and December 15th, you’ve already received — or should soon receive — a Common Jet and Triple Threat in your Treasure Chest!

Thank you for your support of Spider Tanks, and happy holidays to you and yours!

-For Founder’s Node Operator License Owners-

Any Founder’s Node Operator can get in on this giveaway if they get in on a little of the holiday fun in the arena!

Any operator of at least 1 Founder’s Node that plays at least 5 matches from today at 3pm PT through Monday, December 19th at 3pm PT will also receive a Common Jet and a Common Triple Threat!

Make sure and get those matches in before Monday afternoon and after the event, we’ll send out your shiny new Tank to your Treasure Chest!

Note that only one Tank per account will be delivered by Santa’s assistants, regardless of how many Nodes a single account operates.

The Year of the Tanks

There’s tons more coming for Spider Tanks, and we’re glad that each and every member of our community is on this journey with us!

Even if we didn’t get you on the nice list this time, we sincerely hope that each and every one of you have a fantastic holiday season– however you choose to celebrate. If you choose to spend some time making celebratory Tank Part confetti over this holiday, we’ll see you in the arena!

Bridging is Now Open

Bridging is Now Open

Bridging functions are now fully available, allowing SILK, in-game items and more to be transferred in or out of the ecosystem.

We hope you’ve all been enjoying the world’s first Web3 esport since the recent launch! Maybe you’ve even run into familiar members of the Gala Games and GAMEDIA teams in the arena. Hopefully in this situation you were able to appropriately trounce them — As they say, the developers rarely have the time to enjoy the greatest gaming skills.😁

Today’s message is short and sweet, as we’re thrilled to announce that BRIDGES ARE NOW COMPLETE. You can now move SILK and other in-game items as you please.

Blockchain Bridges

Spider Tanks runs on Gala Games’ native blockchain, Project GYRI, carefully custom designed by our expert blockchain engineers for games first. This blockchain embraces and maximizes everything Web3 can do for gaming while virtually eliminating the superfluous parts. This is a true blockchain for gamers, meaning that it will effectively hide in the background, providing you with the most empowered Web3 gaming experience you have ever seen.

Blockchain bridges are a crucial part of a games-first blockchain like Project GYRI. Your freedom as a Web3 gamer involves the ability to easily move assets back and forth from the established Ethereum blockchain with all its convenience and widespread use.

Today’s Update

After extensive testing and re-testing, we have now implemented off-ramp bridging to the Ethereum blockchain for both ERC-20 and ERC-1155 tokens.

The network fee for bridging assets from Project GYRI to Ethereum is payable in GALA from your Project GYRI wallet.

Keep in mind that in some instances, bridging assets out of the Spider Tanks ecosystem negatively impacts Honor, which can affect the degree to which you can earn SILK rewards.

Don’t Blink

There is still some undisclosed excitement in store before the holidays, so make sure to keep your Spider Tanks Garages warm and ready.

This weekend, we’ll have something extra special for Founder’s Node operators. Look for more info coming very soon.

See you in the arena.
