Introduction to Jukebox Nodes

To power our network of decentralized music, Gala Music has introduced a groundbreaking concept known as Jukebox Nodes. Part of a larger framework called DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network), these nodes empower individuals to participate directly in hosting and distributing music on the platform.

By becoming a Jukebox Node operator, users can contribute to a global network that supports the Gala Music ecosystem, enhancing music accessibility and unlocking some serious potential $MUSIC rewards.

Hosting Tracks on a Jukebox Node

In order to generate $MUSIC rewards based on their platform plays, NFT tracks must be paired with an active Jukebox Node. Pairing is always initiated by the track owner, and the track owner has the option to pair to a specific Jukebox Node if they wish. This pairing action is essentially hosting the track on the decentralized Gala Music servers, making it accessible to listeners and eligible for reward distribution based on plays.

Each Jukebox Node has a limited number of slots where track NFTs can be placed. While a standard Jukebox Node starts with 10 available slots, Jukebox Node operators have the option to purchase upgrades, adding more slots and thereby increasing the potential $MUSIC rewards generated for hosting tracks on that node.

Understanding DePIN

A DePIN, or Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network, is a network where the infrastructure is distributed among numerous independent operators rather than centralized in a single location or controlled by a single entity. For example, Spotify relies on its centralized data centers in multiple global locations. In contrast, Gala Music streaming is hosted entirely on its distributed network of Jukebox Nodes, operated by community members who are licensed to run them in exchange for rewards.

This approach not only enhances the resilience and scalability of the network but also democratizes the economic benefits, allowing individuals to contribute to and benefit from the system.

The Role of Jukebox Nodes

Jukebox Nodes are the backbone of the Gala Music platform. They host and serve music tracks to listeners, ensuring that music is always available and accessible. Any licensed user with the necessary hardware and internet connection can set up a Jukebox Node and start hosting music. This decentralization helps prevent the system from having single points of failure, which are common in traditional centralized servers.

As the platform’s streaming demands increase, more JukeBox Node licenses are sold to accommodate the hosting needs.

JukeBox Node licenses are currently available for purchase here.

Workloads on the Blockchain

In blockchain terminology, a ‘workload’ refers to the tasks that nodes perform to maintain the network. For Jukebox Nodes, the primary workload involves hosting and streaming music tracks. These tasks are crucial because they ensure that music is always available to users whenever they want to listen. By fulfilling these workloads, Jukebox Nodes support the entire ecosystem, ensuring its operability and reliability.

Rewards for Node Operators

Operating a Jukebox Node is not only about supporting the network but also about gathering rewards. Node operators are basically allowing their computers to act as GalaChain employees, receiving $MUSIC tokens as compensation for their contributions.

$MUSIC rewards are generated based on several factors, including the number of tracks hosted, the uptime of the node (a minimum of 20 hours daily is required), and the popularity of the music streamed from their node. This incentivizes operators to maintain their nodes actively and ensures that popular tracks are readily available, enhancing listener satisfaction.

You’ll find more information about JukeBox Nodes in the Gala Music Whitepaper.

Node Slots

Each Gala Music Jukebox Node has a limited number of slots where hosted tracks will live as long as they are paired with that node.

Every new Jukebox Node comes with 10 slots, but all Jukebox Nodes can be upgraded to contain additional slots. By adding slots to a Jukebox Node, an operator can increase their potential $MUSIC rewards by hosting more music.

Each new slot may be purchased with $MUSIC alone. For a more detailed guide on how to purchase additional slots for your Jukebox Node, check out THIS SUPPORT ARTICLE.

How Node Operators Benefit the Ecosystem

Node operators play a critical role in the Gala Music ecosystem by:

  1. Ensuring Availability: By hosting music tracks, operators ensure that there is no downtime, which can be a significant issue with centralized servers.
  2. Enhancing Performance: Distributed hosting reduces latency since music is streamed from a node geographically closer to the listener.
  3. Growing the Platform: As more nodes join the network, the platform’s capacity to host and stream music increases, which can accommodate more users and tracks without the need for significant infrastructure investment from Gala Music itself.

Web3 Wallets: Your Key to Interacting with Gala Music and Beyond

Web3 Wallets: Your Key to Interacting with Gala Music and Beyond

Web3 wallets are fundamental tools that allow users to interact with decentralized applications (dApps) like Gala Music.

While a traditional wallet stores currency, a web3 wallet stores cryptographic keys—both public and private—that represent ownership and provide the functionality to interact with various blockchain networks.

Importance of Web3 Wallets

Web3 wallets are not just storage units for cryptocurrencies but gateways to a burgeoning ecosystem of decentralized applications that allow you to:

  • Manage Identities: Your wallet can act as your digital identity in the web3 space, enabling interactions with dApps without the need for traditional login systems.
  • Execute Transactions: You can send and receive cryptocurrencies, interact with smart contracts, and engage with various blockchain functions directly from your wallet.
  • Hold Assets: Beyond cryptocurrencies, web3 wallets can hold a variety of digital assets, including NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens), which are critical for platforms like Gala Music.

Types of Web3 Wallets

There are several different types of blockchain wallets, facilitating different types of security and varying degrees of convenience and user control. Below you’ll find a list that briefly outlines some of the most important types of wallets.

The GalaChain ecosystem easily integrates with Metamask because it falls into several of the categories below. It is a software wallet with a browser extension as well as a robust mobile wallet solution, and it allows you to control your own private keys.

HOT WALLETS – These are considered “hot” because they all involve internet connections for enhanced capabilities and convenience.

“Hot Wallets vs. Cold Wallets: Self Custody 101” -Blockworks

  1. Browser Extension Wallets (Metamask) : Installed as browser extensions, these wallets allow simple and direct interaction with dApps from web browsers.
  1. Mobile Wallets (Metamask, Trust Wallet): Many wallet providers offer smartphone apps for managing cryptocurrencies and accessing dApps on the go.
  1. Desktop Wallets (Exodus): Installed on computers, these software wallets offer robust security and comprehensive asset management, but are often less convenient to use.
  1. Web Wallets (MyEtherWallet): Accessible via web browsers, convenient but generally less secure.
  1. Multi-Signature Wallets (Gnosis Safe): Requires multiple private keys for transactions, adding security for shared funds.

Web3 wallets always fall into one of the following categories: Custodial or non-custodial, depending on whether or not the owner of the account controls the wallet’s private keys.

  1. Custodial Wallets (Coinbase Wallet): Managed by third parties, custodial wallets offering ease of use but less control over funds.
  1. Non-Custodial Wallets (MetaMask, Trust Wallet): Users control their private keys, offering more security but requiring responsibility for key management.

COLD WALLETS – These are considered “cold” or “offline” wallets because they do not require an internet connection and while more secure, are less convenient for transactions.

“What is a Cold Wallet?”-Ledger Academy

  1. Hardware Wallets (Ledger Nano S, Trezor): Physical devices storing private keys offline, providing high security.
  1. Paper Wallets (Just what they sound like): Physical pieces of paper containing printed private keys and public addresses. Users generate these keys offline and store them in a secure place, such as a safe, to prevent unauthorized access.

Your GalaChain Wallet

Every Gala account has a built-in GalaChain wallet that allows you to receive and transfer GalaChain tokens, including unique non-fungible tokens such as music tracks and game items, as well as fungible tokens such as $GALA or $MUSIC.

GalaChain is a layer1 blockchain, built for interoperability with Ethereum. Therefore, your GalaChain assets can exist on either blockchain (GalaChain or Ethereum) at any given time.

Your new GalaChain wallet does not have the capacity to hold Ethereum-based tokens until you connect your Gala account to an Ethererum wallet. Connecting your external Ethereum wallet is easy. We recommend Metamask, the trusted and leading third party software wallet.

Connecting your Web3 Wallet

To unlock the ability to bridge GalaChain assets to Ethereum, you’ll need to connect your external web3 wallet. In your account Settings, navigate to the Linked Accounts menu.

Currently, three leading software wallets are supported for connection: Metamask, Coinbase Wallet and OKX Wallet. For this example walkthrough, we will use Metamask.

  1. Create a Metamask Wallet

If you don’t already have one, you’ll need to download Metamask and create a new wallet. Follow the simple instructions in this support article to ensure that Metamask is properly installed in your browser.

You can also download Metamask on your mobile device by following the instructions in the following support articles:

Install Metamask on iOS

Install Metamask on Android

  1. Import Tokens to your Metamask Wallet

Individual tokens must be manually imported to be displayed in your Metamask wallet. If you bridge tokens to Ethereum from GalaChain, they will not show up in Metamask until you complete this step for that token.

To import $GALA, all you need is the token’s Ethereum contract address, which you’ll find on Coinmarketcap in the area circled below.

  1. After copying that contract address to your clipboard, open your Metamask extension and locate Import Tokens in the Tokens tab.
  1. Next, click to the Custom Token tab and paste the contract address for $GALA. The rest of the token information will populate.
  1. Finally, confirm the token Import and you’ll then see the token in your wallet.

Be sure to import any token that you want listed in your Metamask wallet using the steps above. Then when any quantity of that token is transferred to your wallet, it will show your balances.

Please note that if you receive tokens before they’re imported, you still own them– They’ll just need to be imported before they are displayed.

3. Connect your Web3 Wallet to your Gala Account

This is the part that makes your GalaChain wallet easily interoperable with your Ethereum wallet through your Gala account.

Once your Metamask wallet is configured simply click Connect Wallet and choose Metamask to initiate a signature transaction within Metamask. Once you approve that transaction, your wallet will be connected, ready to bridge to and from Ethereum or transact with Ethereum-based tokens.

Track Pairing in the Gala Music Ecosystem

Track Pairing in the Gala Music Ecosystem

What is Gala Music and How Does It Work?

Gala Music is powered by a network of GalaChain nodes known as Jukebox Nodes. These nodes have a critical role in hosting music content on the platform, allowing all users to listen to their favorite tracks seamlessly.

Think of these nodes as individual radio stations broadcasting songs over the internet, but operated by users like you. Unlike traditional radio stations however, there’s no need to “tune in.” Instead, the audio content you want is automatically delivered through web3 magic, straight to your ears via the next available Jukebox Node.

Pairing Your Track with a Jukebox Node

When you ‘pair’ a track with an active Jukebox Node, you are essentially uploading your track to the blockchain. This means your track is hosted on the network and available for others to listen to. There’s no additional cost to do this, and you don’t need to own a Jukebox Node yourself. If you do own one, however, you can choose to pair your track with your node to optimize your rewards.

Unlocking Rewards Through Music

Once your track is paired and receives listens on the platform, it starts generating rewards in the form of $MUSIC. These rewards are distributed among three parties: The Jukebox Node operator (the host), the track owner and the musician who produced the track. This incentivizes not just the hosting of tracks, but also active participation and promotion within the Gala Music ecosystem.

Rewards generated in each 24 hour period are divided among all instances of the track that are successfully paired with an active Jukebox Node.

Learn more about all the details of $MUSIC rewards and the Gala Music economy in the Gala Music Whitepaper.

The Simplicity of Track Pairing

Pairing a track to an active Jukebox Node is straightforward and can be done easily through your Collection page. By making it easy and free to pair tracks, Gala Music encourages widespread participation and decentralization. Anyone with a track can contribute to and potentially benefit from the ecosystem, fostering a community-driven environment where anyone’s success is everyone’s success.

The Bigger Picture

The Jukebox Node network is a form of DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure), just like GalaChain’s many other node networks with their specialized workloads. Unlike traditional music streaming services that rely on centralized servers (like those from AWS), Gala Music leverages its community to power the network. This not only reduces reliance on major corporations but also puts the control and rewards back into the hands of the community members — the music lovers and creators themselves.

Why This Matters

This method of hosting NFT tracks through Jukebox Nodes underlines Gala Music’s commitment to a decentralized music system. By empowering its community to host and share music, Gala Music disrupts the traditional music industry, shifting power from centralized bodies to individual artists and fans. This new model not only enhances engagement and interaction within the music community but also aligns with broader trends towards decentralization in digital content distribution.

By joining the Gala Music ecosystem, you’re part of a revolutionary approach that reshapes how music is enjoyed and valued across the globe.
