Town Star Economic Updates

Beginning on July 19th, Town Star Play-to-Earn will begin a series of major economic upgrades, temporarily pausing TOWN distribution.

The flagship Web3 town builder might have recently won the Best Blockchain Game of the Year award, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t still huge room for improvement and growth. We are all fortunate to have witnessed Town Star’s rise as one of the earliest and most rewarding play-to earn games out there.

As we now guide Town Star to its next evolution as the world’s greatest Web3 sim game, there are some important developments and upgrades to be made. By listening closely to community feedback, we have determined that the best time is now to begin making these large and necessary updates.

Beginning on July 19th, all TOWN distributions to players and Node operators will temporarily stop.

During this temporary TOWN pause, we will focus on evolving the Town Star in-game economy, making tech improvements as well as adding features to the game. This has been discussed at length in the #townstar_discussions channel in our Discord community.

This change, while it is unexpected for some, is a wonderful thing for Town Star players, as well as for the health of the TOWN economy. With this change, we have doubled the size of the Town Star team and brought in a seasoned industry expert, Mark Skaggs [WIKIPEDIA LINK], to lead this winning team. We are also in the process of switching the game development engine from PlayCanvas, which is client-side authoritative, to Godot, which is server-side authoritative (an important part of stopping cheats, scripts, and hacks).

We are investing heavily in Town Star and would like to see it become the first Web3 game to achieve large-scale mass adoption. This step, while temporarily painful, is necessary to achieve that goal.

We will continue to run both the daily challenges and competition but changes should be expected along the way as new systems are added and tested. Town Points earned during this period will not result in any TOWN distribution and will be erased at the end of each day. Those who operate Town Star Nodes are under no obligation to continue to do so, but please know that Nodes are a key part of the future of Town Star.

This is a big project and it will take some time to get there, though we’re confident that this pause will allow our team to evolve the in-game economy, add more fun features, and upgrade our game engine to support an amazing future for all Town Star players.

If you have any further questions, feel free to join the Town Star Discord channels at galagames.chat to get involved with the conversation.

Thank you for being part of this community!

Feed Bot Needs Friends

Feed Bot Needs Friends

Collect 10 Town Star friends in May Mayhem to earn the help of an awesome new robo-companion!

The fields are lonely this time of year. The last of the snow is melting and the mud is beginning to firm up, ready to be tilled and prepared for all those glorious crops slated to be planted. The fields are holding their breath before that yearly explosion of life and abundance. The hordes of workers have not yet descended on the farms still shaking off the winter themselves.

But there is one figure out there already, always ready to work: Feed Bot. This metal figure shines from early dawn to the last glimpse of dusk and keeps working even through the night thanks to special modifications by Debbie X, the partially anonymous but fully eccentric Rancher/Inventor responsible for the Feed Bot’s creation.

Debbie X, a talented Rancher/Engineer, was concerned about her animals being fed while she was off building windmills and storage yards. What better way to make sure all those cute little critters were taken care of than by creating a trusted helper to handle those chores. This was the genesis of Feed Bot.

FEED BOT LOVES YOU!

Working in the fields can be a lonely existence for a robot sometimes. Of course, the animals are always around, and Feed Bot loves them dearly, and with the utmost seriousness. The animals must be fed, and always will be if Feed Bot has anything to say about it. Do NOT stand between Feed Bot and his animals. You have been warned.

But it doesn’t have to be so lonely for our metal friends. Robots are capable of making lasting friendships if people can get past the metal exterior to the warm, wiry insides that pass for Feed Bot’s heart. With ranches all over the world already enjoying the benefits of his hard work, Feed Bot is hardly an unknown in the ranching world.

Ultimately, Feed Bot needs a good friend, one who is part of a large social group that Feed Bot can learn from. Luckily the folks of Town Star are a social bunch, rumors are they even befriended a dragon somewhere along the line. And that’s not nothin’, as they say.

With that in mind, Gala Games and Town Star want to help our metallic friends. For every 10 referrals during the month of May, as part of the May Mayhem event, you will attract the attention of a Feed Bot. And there’s nothing more helpful to being competitive than a dedicated, tireless robot worker to keep those production chains rolling.

Don’t let these friendly bots go without this month, get those referrals going and help the robotic farming community grow and prosper. After all, how can you be a true Town Star without friends… and robots! And Robot Friends!

You still have until the end of May Mayhem to bring 10 new friends into Town Star to be eligible for your Feed Bot reward! Hurry!

Feed Bots will be delivered at some point in the weeks that follow May Mayhem.

Mayhem Comes to Town

Mayhem Comes to Town

April showers bring May millions in Town Star by Gala Games

May Mayhem has finally arrived, and this year we’re bringing even more rewards directly to the streets of Town Star! Last year May Mayhem was huge, and this year we’re going even bigger. As we mentioned last week, $2 million in rewards will be coming to the Town Star community during the next month!

We’ve got a huge pool of extra rewards in GALA and NFTs to spread around this year throughout Gala Games. There will be ways for everyone in Town Star to get in on these added rewards, regardless of whether you play in the competition or on a play-to-earn server! Here in Town, there is just no way to describe May other than total mayhem.

Massive Competition Rewards

The illustrious return of the competition couldn’t have come at a better time. We’ve massively expanded the prize pool for the competition server– far beyond what it’s ever been before! The prizes in GALA for each week are:

  • 1st — $15,000
  • 2nd — $10,000
  • 3rd — $7,500
  • 4th-10th — $3,000
  • 11th-100th — $1,000
  • 101st-200th — $715
  • 201st-300th — $450
  • 301st-1000th — $150
  • 1001st-2000th — $50

Like last year’s May Mayhem, the competition will happen in 4 separate rounds with a new competition each week. The first week kicks off May 3rd and runs through May 9th. Get your strategies prepared, Town Stars!

Hundreds of thousands of dollars will be given out as prizes to those who rank in the top 2000 each week during the month of May, and there will be additional bonus prizes for random placements each week!

These bonus prizes will be given to different, undisclosed ranks across the leaderboard each week. The amount of places rewarded and the reward amounts will vary each week, but the total of these bonus rewards will come to an extra $40,000 in GALA each week!

Enhanced P2E

The Play-to-Earn servers aren’t going to be left out of all the MAYhem. In addition to normal earnings throughout the month, the P2E servers will also have bonus rewards on each server that reward random placements throughout the leaderboard.

For P2E servers, May will be divided into 2-week segments. Instead of the normal 30+ days, you’ll only have 14. A live stream will shortly follow each 2-week session during which numbers will be selected to win prize GALA.

During May, these bonus prizes will total up to over $200,000 rewarded to Town Stars on the P2E servers. Again, these aren’t rewards for the top of the leaderboard… there’s plenty of that in the competition!

New in Town

To celebrate the mayhem, we’re implementing an all new referral program into Town Star for the month. There’s never been a better time to introduce your friends to play-and-earn.

Each friend you refer to Town Star during May will make progress towards an epic NFT reward. You’ll need to refer 10 new Town Stars during the month to get a shiny new Feed Bot!

After logging into Town Star, you will find this image:

Say hello to Feed Bot!

Once you click this link, you’ll be given your unique referral link that you can share.

Anyone who signs up for Town Star with this link will count towards your Feed Bot reward, but they will have to actually play the game. You’ll see an in-game counter that shows your progress toward reaching the goal of 10 and earning your Feed Bot NFT.

Get out there and share the greatness of Town Star with the world, and you may end up with a limited edition Feed Bot helper for your town.

Where’d the NFTs Go?!

Yep! As part of the restructuring of the Town Star economy, we removed all TOWN-earning items from the Town Star store. You still may have a good chance of finding some of them on the secondary market at OpenSea.

Every single Town Star NFT we pulled from the shop today will be burned from supply. Let that sink in.

Let the MAYhem begin!

This is just the start of an entire month of added rewards throughout the Gala Games ecosystem, and Town Star isn’t the only game with tons of great bonuses and increased prize pool. The mayhem is about to begin. Grow your town, and you May win big!

Gems are coming soon.

Town Star Economy News and Updates

Town Star Economy News and Updates

Howdy Town Stars! It’s time for some exciting updates on brand new features coming to the game over the next several months. Let’s dig in!

Gems — Useful Bling for your TOWN

As we have mentioned ever since the initial launch of Town Star Play-to-Earn, more uses for this gaming reward token are coming, and this is a big one.

Gems are a new in-game currency that you’ll soon be able to buy with TOWN.

You’re already able to spend your TOWN on various Town Star items, including some that are exclusively purchasable for TOWN. Additionally, after minting your TOWN rewards from your Treasure Chest to the Ethereum blockchain, you are able to trade for ETH or USDT on several exchanges.

Gems will be a real game changer.

Since we started up Town Star Play to Earn, we’ve been hard at work to find ways to make the system even more fun and rewarding for all Town Stars. Seeing players earn from their in-game assets has been amazing. We want to take that to the next step and offer more fun and versatile ways to play Town Star.

The complete Gem system will gradually be rolled out over the next 6 months or so, but Gems themselves will be available for purchase much sooner than that. You will have the opportunity to purchase this new in-game Town Star currency exclusively for TOWN. It’s important to note that Gems are not a cryptocurrency based on the blockchain, but rather an in-game currency exclusive to Town Star. They will eventually offer a variety of in-game benefits, many of which have never before been available. Here are some examples of the options that may become available.

  • Special server passes
  • In-game product purchases (Gasoline, Oak Wood, etc.)
  • New in-game content and items
  • New storage buildings
  • Removal of negative proximity effects (shade, pollution, etc.)
  • Enhanced speed of crops, workers, or production
  • Worker prioritization (ability to tell them what to work on first)

Gems themselves will be coming to Town Star very soon. While we cannot say for sure in which order the other features will be added, you can expect many of them to follow in the six months following the release of Gems.

TOWN spent on Gems will be burned, according to the following procedure: When a player purchases Gems, they will do so by sending their TOWN directly to a designated burn wallet.

New Reward Distribution System

As our flagship game and first play-to-earn economy, Town Star is very important to us. We’ve discussed some ideas to strengthen the economy of Town Star with the community previously, and in the interest of long-term sustainability we have made an important decision about the method by which future TOWN rewards will be distributed.

All TOWN rewards will transition to a point-based distribution system, as described below.

Instead of a fixed TOWN reward value, each owned NFT will have a point value. Each player’s total points will represent a portion of the daily TOWN reward pool.

Total TOWN reward distribution will decrease over time as a cap for TOWN is approached, causing TOWN to become increasingly scarce as time goes on. Each player’s daily points will be transformed into their share of TOWN rewards for the day, using a ratio that will decrease over time as TOWN becomes more scarce. An example of the distribution model over time is demonstrated in the chart below. (not exact figures, subject to change).

The total daily amount of TOWN in the reward pool will be affected by the number of daily active players. Basically, players will have greater reward potential when they own a larger or rarer collection of Town Star NFTs. All players will experience reduced TOWN distributions for the same number of points as we move forward in this system.

Removal of TOWN-earning NFTs from the Store

As part of this reward restructuring, all TOWN-earning NFTs will be temporarily removed from the Town Star store. Players and collectors will still have the option to purchase these items as available on the peer-to-peer secondary markets such as OpenSea. This won’t have any effect on your ability to use your NFTs within the game.

This removal of for-sale items will take place before the end of April, but TOWN earnings will continue in the current distribution model until we are ready to switch over to the point system distribution model.

Other Things to Look Forward to

Market Board Lending System

This system, announced at last December’s -into the galaverse, will let free players enjoy earned rewards while allowing NFT owners to share passively in these rewards.

While the Market Board system is still an important part of the Town Star roadmap, it has been delayed until a TBA future date to allow for the prioritization of the features previously described in this article.

Gathering New Players

The Town Star team is aggressively pursuing many new methods of attracting new players to Town Star and the Gala Games Ecosystem. You should begin to see the fruits of these efforts very soon with substantial growth in the active Town Star community.

MAYhem

Some of you remember last year’s historic May Mayhem Town Star tournament, with a combined $1 million in prizes. This time, let’s go for $2 million.🤑

We have some incredible May excitement planned for 2022, not only for Town Star, but the wider world of Gala Games. We can hardly wait to share more details, and you won’t want to miss it.

Town Star AMA

Join us April 19th at 7:30am PT for a special Town Star AMA in which we will take your questions about the roadmap and discuss all the excitement on the horizon for Town Star in 2022 as we kick things into the stratosphere.

That concludes this round of massive Town Star updates, and that ought to give you more than enough to chew on for the weekend. Thank you as always for being part of this Ecosystem, and thank you for empowering yourself through Gala Games.

How I Wound Up in Business with a Dragon

How I Wound Up in Business with a Dragon

PART 1 — Farmer’s Log — March 30th, 2022

It all started at a Town Council meeting.

I’m not on the Town council myself, but this time I was there to be heard. Ever since that Nikole Tesla came to town, strange things had been happening in the sky.

I’d gotten to wonderin’ if her bizarre high-tech experiments with electricity were to blame for the unnatural green spiral cloud that sometimes appears in the sky over yonder above Perch Hill. Turns out it wasn’t her fault, but that night I was ready to raise a fuss about the pollutin’ of our beauty of a big sky view with odd shapes and colors of clouds.

There was a heated debate about the increasing price of gasoline and how it would affect our deliveries. One Council member said everyone should drive little mopeds instead of cars. Then the meeting was completely side tracked while everyone talked about a young man who used to run deliveries round these parts… A young man named Jimmy.

No one had mentioned Jimmy in some time. The boy decided early last year that he needed a vacation. He up and started traveling the world. He wrote to Town Hall for a while, but his messages were cryptic, then barely believable, and finally, nonsense that often bordered on gibberish. Then one day the letters and messages just stopped coming.

At first we just all figured he was shacked up somewhere where he could put off adulthood for a few more years. But a crazy rumor started getting around that he’d been abducted by outer space aliens. Then a lady from Nextville (the next town over) started coming into town, said she was Jimmy’s mama. She was a wide-eyed, sweatpants-wearing, tote-bag toting mess of a lady who looked like she hadn’t slept in her life.

To anyone who’d listen, Jimmy’s mama would spout the same story, and it was completely bananas. There were some parts about some kind of worldwide supergovernment, then she’d transition perfectly into how the aliens who abducted Jimmy were actually not aliens, but robots from another dimension.

She’d go on to explain that in addition to being the world’s largest coverup conspiracy, the interdimensional alien robots were somehow connected directly to Jimmy. She thought he had done something stupid (Jimmy was never the brightest) and opened up some kind of interdimensional wormhole.

We’d say something like “Gert…” (that’s her name, Gert) “Gert… When we look for that wormhole, it’s never where you say it’s gonna be.”

She’d wave her Diet Coke in our faces and shout “It’s always moving! You’ll see! Unimaginable things will start coming out of that portal!”

Ol’ Gert hung out in town a lot those days, spent her time convincing the more gullible folk that there was a wormhole in the sky that was impossibly hard to spot. The alien rumor continued to spread, and before long everyone was really confused. No one knew if it was the government, aliens, robots, wormholes, high gas prices, or all of the above.

One sleepless night the details of the last few months came together for me. The green spiral cloud I was seeing in the sky. Gert’s ravings about portals, and Nikole Tesla’s strange experiments with electricity. The cloud was none other than the portal in the sky from Gert’s ravings!

Apparently energy escaping from Nikole’s lab was occasionally stopping the portal just over Perch Hill. Maybe the portal is like a revolving door that opens to hundreds (or thousands, or more) of different dimensions or realities. Makes you wonder what may come out of that green portal over Perch Hill, doesn’t it?

To be honest I’m still confused about what happened to Jimmy, but this isn’t about Jimmy. It’s about a dragon, whose arrival would eventually lead to not only one of the best friendships of my life, but a business endeavor that could really do some good for the whole town.

Part 2 coming soon…

If you’re new around the Gala Games community, you may not be aware of the Mirandus Dragon Familiar, earned for collecting all 10 Mirandus Dragon Vouchers. You know, the ones found inside the Mirandus Skin Packs.

Basically, it now has a Town Star counterpart. Holders of all 10 Dragon Vouchers will have the Dragon’s help with fast and gas free deliveries — a real game changer.

Certain Mirandus Skin Packs are available now in extremely limited supply in the Town Star store, so act quickly if you’re still trying to collect your Dragon.
