We are delighted to announce that today we are releasing new Gala Games Node Software to support the Gala Games Ecosystem! This is the first step in migrating to the Gala Games Decentralized Content Distribution Network (DCDN), which will leverage the excellent work pioneered by Protocol Labs.
If you are running your Gala Game Node on Windows or Mac, the update should be automatic once you click the “Update Now” button in the upper right hand corner of your node software. If you are operating headless nodes on Linux, you will need to manually redeploy your node software and go through a clean install. We will post the link to the installation instructions here shortly.
Note: When you are installing on Windows, you will receive a warning
This is due to the fact that the Content Signing Certificate is new, and needs to establish a reputation before this warning is removed.
It is not required that you update your nodes immediately. However, on March 31st, 2021, at 23:59 UTC, the nodes which have not been updated will be excluded from the network and will not be able to receive any rewards until they have updated their node software.

As we keep rolling along and continue picking up the pace, Gala is delighted to announce another new addition to our winning team! In the next of our team profile series, allow us to formally introduce a new full stack engineer for the Gala ecosystem: Michael Fearn.
Michael brings a keen interest in software development, both for work and in his spare time, and he really enjoys exploring new ways for players to interact with gaming systems (Gala Games’ specialty). Michael is a lover of virtual reality and a seeker of knowledge, continually self-educating by reading up on the latest in software development.
In his spare time, Michael is into rock-climbing, gaming, fantasy, cosplay and “hanging out with his cat.” He also has experience in 3D printing, and constructing props for cosplay, though he hasn’t been able to spend as much time as he likes lately with that hobby. Perhaps in the future when Galacon goes physical, Michael will be able to spearhead some organized cosplay efforts and get back into it!
Like every one of us at Gala, Michael loves games. His favorite is Fallout 3, the 2008 masterpiece from Bethesda Softworks, which he continues to play periodically to this day. It was the story and lore of the Fallout world that really hooked Michael, with all its fascinating nuances and details. We’ve almost certainly got a future Mirandus player on our hands!
Michael is thrilled to join up with Gala Games, giving him a chance to bring all his awesome skills together to do rewarding work, developing products to help others find more freedom and fulfillment in their lives through a renewed sense of play. Welcome to Gala Games, Michael!
Totally Random Fact from Michael: “Synthwave is my spirit animal.”

UPDATE: This proposal passed with a very significant margin. This means that at the halving, there will NOT be a reduction of rewards being distributed to the Node Network in the July 2021 halving.
While we do not currently have governance proposals active on the node network, we DO expect that they would be reactivated within the next several weeks. There are MANY proposals that we will be collating and putting forward, but the first proposal we would like to put to the nodes is one which we feel that most node owners will be in favor of. We are officially announcing that this will be the first proposal which will be put to a governance vote.
Currently, as explained in numerous places, the division of the distribution is 25% to the node owners, and 75% to the curatorship of Gala Games for Ecosystem Development, etc. When the next halving occurs, the total amount of GALA distributed per day will be cut in half. This means that if the current schedule is maintained, the amount of GALA which is distributed to the nodes would be reduced from ~8.5m to ~4.25m.
However, we believe that decentralization is extremely important, so we are proposing that on July 21st, rather than maintaining the current ratio, we shift the ratio so that the Node Operator rewards stay the same. If our proposal is accepted by the Node Operators, the total daily distribution would look like this:
This will be the first major distribution change proposal we put to the Gala Games Node Network, and we are excited to see how people respond with their votes. There are going to be other votes on other issues, but this is a major step towards greater decentralization and we expect it to be greeted with enthusiasm.

Each Town Star game comes with plenty of important strategic decisions, especially if you’re aiming for one of the top spots, because no builder can ever build everything. For the most organized and effective builds, you must first decide on a focus by setting specific goals, then spend the duration of the game achieving those goals in the most efficient ways you can manage.
Some Town Star players like to focus on the uniform hustle, which involves expert crafting with cotton, wool and lumber. Others aim to make rows of cakeries, from which the aromas of sweet virtual delicacies fill the air. Still others strive to become metalheads by mastering the crafting and export of coveted and valued blue steel.
Today in its inaugural session, a brand new Town Star hustle will be shaking up the strategy of this challenging game and keeping players on the edge of their seats yet again. We’re talking about Wine!
You could always have a glass of wine to celebrate the launch of the BAT Tournament with $5000 in prizes, but why not make wine in Town Star instead? Wine-making will take patience and persistence, but the rewards will be great as wine will certainly fetch an excellent price when sold to the cities.
How Wine is Made
There are a few necessities that you must achieve before wine can be produced and sold.
Grapes
Bottles
Oak Barrels
The simplest piece of the wine puzzle is the grapes, which can be grown in three different varieties: Cabernet, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. But you must plan carefully to get the most from your grapes, remembering that bottles, barrels and a Winery are also required before wine can be completed.
Your quest to produce and deliver the finest wines in Town Star may appear simple at a glance, but as it unfolds, you will learn why world-renowned wines are so highly valued. Making a fine wine requires intricate planning and astute skills of organization.
You’ll need a Glass Factory…
A Winery…
And a Lumber mill (which can now produce Oak Barrels).
Don’t forget the energy needed to power your lumber mill, and of course, the fuel and other production necessary to save up for the whopping $1,000,000 price tag on the Winery!
Now get out there and be the best first-generation Town Star wine-makers you can be! Good luck in the BAT Tournament, starting today!

Note: As the title hints, this is typically something that would be released on a Monday. However, the delay in minting for some NFTs led to this being pushed on a Tuesday morning instead.
Typically, when a game is developed, you only really see the final product. Most of the time, you don’t really get to see behind the scenes to see what the development process is really like or understand the decisions that shaped the games you know and love.
This is why today is the first in a series of Mirandus Monday updates that will focus a bit more on the technical aspects of game development, and a bit less on the story and the world. Today, we are speaking with Craig Matchett, about character design in the world of Mirandus.
Now, for those of you who don’t know, Craig is a character design legend. When he came onboard a few weeks ago, we published a blog post outlining some of his work in Outer Worlds, Battlefield Hardline, Dead Space 2, Star Wars: Force Unleashed, and many many more. Craig is at the top of the character design industry, so speaking to him about the development of Mirandus can shed light into how the character design process typically works and how we are doing it differently.
To start, lets examine one of the character models used in the early Mirandus pieces. This piece is so interesting because it highlights the fascinating fact that this character, low-poly though it may be, worked perfectly for some of the original pieces from a top-down perspective, but is entirely unsuited from a first-person view. The inclusion of hands, which are so very vital for a first person perspective, make the proportions look out of whack. This is one of the things that Craig has been working on this week, as well as the introduction of gendered models to allow users to represent themselves within the world of Mirandus in the way that feels best to them.
The result has been this re-envisioning of the characters.
One interesting fact about these models is that they use the same basic skeleton and apply different meshes. This means that there will be a great number of actions, animations, and mechanics that can be easily reused between genders. This will lead to a massive savings in assets used to create the game and cut down on a great deal of development time and even game footprint.
Speaking with Craig about this is fascinating, because his experience extends throughout the video game industry. With a high-polygon character for an average AAA game, there will be millions of polygons all expended to create a character that simply drops directly into the Uncanny Valley and looks obviously fake while attempting to be photorealistic. This sort of graphical spoon-feeding of the imagination manages to make games LESS immersive than if the users’ own imaginations were to create and fill in the details.
Moving to a low-poly design like this has several other significant benefits. Firstly, it allows lightning-fast iteration. The Mirandus development team can build out and test whole new concepts and game mechanisms when other developers would still be working on poly shading for their smallest monsters. This also enables very quick pivots if a new design opportunity presents itself. It does not take much for the human mind to perceive emotion and to humanize a simple design, which can then become extremely relatable. This can be compared to the Uncanny Valley situation of a near photo-realistic design that cannot express emotion correctly, like those you see in so many AAA games we have all seen over the years.
Over the years, gaming has become very “hand-holdy,” as if AAA gaming companies no longer trust their users to be able to follow along with their imaginations and they must feed them EXACTLY what they want them to see. This lack of trust carries into so many areas — they don’t trust you to own your assets, to share your games, or to create your own in-game experience or world.
This is what sets us at Gala Games apart…we trust you and depend upon you to help us build the world that YOU want to see. As gamers, we are united by the cause to give gaming back to the rest of the gaming community. United by play and a passion for excellence, Gala Games will never waver in its mission to revolutionize gaming!
