Building the Future of Innovation
After a successful debut in 2024, Gala Music is proud to return to the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) this fall for the Second Annual “Pitch FIT” Student Entrepreneurship Competition.
At Gala, our mission has always been to empower the world with Web3 technology—and one of the most powerful ways we can do that is by investing in the next generation of entrepreneurs and creatives. Together with FIT, we’re giving students the chance to put their creativity into practice, sharpen their business skills, and explore how emerging technologies like GalaChain can reshape industries.
Why FIT?
FIT is part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system and has been a global leader in art, design, business, and technology education since 1944. With almost 9000 students and deep industry ties, FIT’s campus in New York City is a natural hub for creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship. That’s why this partnership is the perfect match: bringing together Gala’s Web3 vision with FIT’s legacy of cultivating creative leaders.
How the Competition Will Work
This year’s competition will be integrated into several entrepreneurship courses at FIT, including:
- EP-311 – Introduction to Entrepreneurship
- EP-361 – Cognitive Entrepreneurship
- EP-364 – Understanding & Developing Web3 and NFTs
- EP-365 – The Artist as Entrepreneur
- EP-366 – Corporate Entrepreneurship
- EP-441 – Converting Innovation into Value
The contest is open to all undergraduate and graduate students (full-time and part-time) enrolled at FIT during the Fall 2025 semester ONLY. Students may participate individually or as teams, and submissions can even overlap with class projects.
Participants will prepare:
- A one-minute video pitch
- An executive summary
- A full pitch deck presentation (for finalists)
Students will work with FIT faculty mentors and Gala Music team members to refine their entrepreneurial concepts and learn hands-on skills that translate into today’s rapidly evolving creative economy.
Prizes
Winners will be awarded cash prizes provided by Gala Music:

This year, Gala is sponsoring a Special Web3 Track for projects focused on blockchain innovation:

Last year’s competition revealed just how imaginative and driven FIT students can be, so much so that the winner had the opportunity to share his project on the nationally syndicated show hosted by the legendary music journalist, Sway on his Sirius XM show Sway in the morning. This fall, we’re thrilled to see how the students will continue to push boundaries even further.

Beyond the Platform
We’re bringing back the weighted distribution from the most-popular DSP platform, Spotify! Now, fans are able to share in the success of an artist’s music beyond the Gala Music platform. This is a step in a positive direction of the gamified platform that taps into general music lovers’ instincts for listening, but rewards you with $MUSIC on our platform.
In this evolved distribution model, artists and track owners are able to benefit from tracks streamed on Spotify by being rewarded in $MUSIC. The $MUSIC token is at the heart of the Gala Music ecosystem. The better the artist’s track performs on Spotify, the more $MUSIC tokens track owners and artists receive. It’s a seamless integration that gives artists an even bigger incentive to promote their music everywhere.
Now, you will find a DSP general star rating based on total DSP listens compared to all other tracks on the Gala Music platform. To receive this portion of the distribution, a track must perform better than the bottom 35% of tracks listened on the Gala Music platform OR must perform better than the bottom 35% of DSP streams.
Track Earnings
Track earnings are now based on 1) platform listens (5x for exclusives will still be around) 2) $MUSIC held against an artist, and 3) the track DSP rating. Though this will reduce exclusive track owners earning, the bigger vision is more inclusive of encapsulating artists success holistically.

Battle Rap: A Deeply Rooted Community
JP Cali Smoov shared his thoughts on the rich history of battle rap and its importance to the hip-hop community:
“People have been battle rapping forever, even if you trace back to like the ancient poets in Greek Mythology… to spoken word days where people were competing with slam poetry. People got on street corners and made it more of a grittier thing, where they were betting money and really battling it out.”
Battle rap is more than just a competition; it’s an art form with deep cultural roots that date back centuries. As JP explains, its modern iteration owes much to platforms like YouTube and the DVD era, which brought this underground scene to a wider audience:
“When YouTube came out, it kind of generalized it and made everybody able to see what it is. People started throwing battle rap events and more competitions, and the DVD era was really big for battle rap. The culture has just been growing since then.”
But above all, battle rap is about community:
“It’s like a niche market, a niche culture in hip-hop. The community is very tight-knit. We all look at each other like family. I support every battle rapper when they do other endeavors, and they support each other too.”
